Jack was born February 26, 1929, in Bay City, MI. He graduated from Bay City High School, where he was an athletic standout in swimming, winning the state title in the butterfly. He went on to attend Central Michigan University but left after his sophomore year to enlist in the Marines to fight in the Korean war, gaining acceptance into their Navy flight training program. There he became an officer and a fighter pilot, flying the Corsair F4U off aircraft carriers. When the Korean war ended, he joined the ROTC and returned to the university, graduating with a BS in Business.
Jack’s love of flying didn’t end with his military service. His flight training landed him a job with Capital Airlines which was later purchased and became part of United Airlines whom he flew with for more than 40 years. He saw the world not only through his work but also as a traveler with an insatiable curiosity and love of people, places, food, and varied cultures.
He had a love of music and was a very accomplished musician, playing the piano, guitar, ukulele and trumpet. He had a wonderful singing voice and often played and sang for his family and friends. His other love was tennis which he played for many years. In his later years he took up ballroom dancing, enjoying many evenings dancing with his friends. He was a voracious reader and a lifelong learner. He was a dedicated husband, father, uncle, grandfather and brother, deeply involved with his family. His love for them all was evident in his gentleness, patience and generosity, but mostly by giving us his time.
He is survived by his family, a sister Dorothy Dulude of Grand Rapids, MI. and her family, two daughters, Joan Laucius and her husband Jim of Sherman, Lisa Kaplan and her husband Larry of Lyme, and his niece, Suzy Ronholm and her family JP Eischen and Isabella of Port Charlotte Florida. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Gair, Jack and Morgan Laucius and Natalie and Rachel Kaplan. They were his pride and joy and he endlessly told everyone many stories about them and their many accomplishments.
A Memorial Mass will take place on Saturday, March 17th, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Church in Sherman, CT. A reception will follow in the church hall. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his name to Mathew 25, Inc. PO Box 361 Sherman, CT 06784.
