Jack was born in Ludlow, Massachusetts on April 25, 1923 as a first generation American to parents Antonio and Maria Moreno of Portuguese descent. Jack’s family planted roots in Danbury, Connecticut following the Great Depression. Jack enlisted in the US Army in 1941, serving in the Medical Corps 131st General Hospital in Belgium and Germany, reaching the rank of Technical Sergeant 4th Grade in 1945.
Following his honorable discharge from the Army in 1945, Jack returned to Danbury where he married Nair Motta in 1946, and began working as a machinist in the Danbury area, and started a family. He moved to Bethel, Connecticut in 1957 and began a long career at Blackstone Industries, where he rose to the position of Vice President of Engineering and Product Development, until his retirement in 1988. An entrepreneur by nature, Jack began the second era of his career by starting multiple businesses with his children including JM Products, Glenmore LLC, and the Aptex Corp., where he worked with his son Jack Jr., Annette, and close family friend, Ian Glen.
Jack loved his family and raised six children with his wife Nair. Upon Nair’s death in 1970, Jack married Sarah Losito in 1972, and became stepfather to three more sons, subsequently becoming a grandfather to nine and a great grandfather to seventeen.
Jack was predeceased by his brother Antonio (1990), his first wife Nair Motta (1970), his second wife Sarah Losito (2004), his daughter Annette Moreno (2020), and his stepson Mike Losito (2022). He is survived by his son Daniel Moreno and his wife Lore, daughter Diana Moreno, son Anthony Moreno and his wife Debbie, son Jack Moreno Jr. and his wife Debbie, daughter Joan Moreno, stepson Thomas Losito, stepson David Losito and his wife Joyce, nine grandchildren, and seventeen great grandchildren.
Jack’s passion for his family extended into his community, where he was a founding member of the Sons of Portugal Band in 1939, serving as their business manager, and member of the Color Guard in the 1960’s, and was a founding member of the Sons of Portugal Scholarship in 1964. Jack instilled this sense of family and community in his children and grandchildren as they participate actively in the Sons of Portugal Band, Scholarship, and the Portuguese Cultural Center to this day.
Funeral services will take place at 10:30am on Saturday July 27th at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury at 10:30am. Burial will follow in Saint Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 9:30am to 10:30am.
