Guenther F. Ritzmann, 80, passed away on May 11, 2011 at Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart, FL. He was born in Hamburg, Germany on May 13, 1930. He lived in Port Saint Lucie, FL for 4 years, coming from New Fairfield, CT and Mahopac, NY.
He is survived by his son, Gary Ritzmann, daughter-in-law Julie, and granddaughters Emma, Kathryn and Claire, of Fairport, NY, and his daughter, Gail Redenz, son-in-law Robert, and grandchildren Cassidy and Robert, of Moseley, VA. He is predeceased by his wife, Anke.
Mr. Ritzmann immigrated to the US in March 1961 with his wife Anke. An avid sailor, he spent many years on the Hudson River and Long Island Sound, and was a member of the Orienta Yacht Club, Mamaroneck, NY and the Gold Finney Fleet. Eventually he traded his sails for diesel engines and enjoyed annual cruises between New York and Florida on the Intercoastal Waterway.
He was an engineer for 35 years, working both at client installations and in sales for Thermatool Corporation in Stamford, CT.
Mr. Ritzmann was a member of the Port Saint Lucie German American Club, Savannah Club German American Club, Mens Club, Fishing Blub and Bowling Club.
A gathering of friends will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2011 from 10:30am, at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, CT, followed by a memorial service at 11:30am. Immediately following the service and burial at Mountain View Cemetery, a luncheon will be held at Jim Barbarie’s Restaurant, Danbury, CT.
