Dave was born September 15, 1976 in Danbury to Carol (Walsh) Cooney and the late Captain Dennis Cooney. David attended St. Gregory's School and graduated from Immaculate High School in 1995. He then attended Springfield College and graduated with a dual degree in psychology and sociology. He continued his studies at John Jay University in NYC and obtained a Master's Degree in forensic psychology.
He graduated from the Police Academy in 2001 and joined the Danbury Police Department becoming Sergeant in 2006. During his 20 year career he was awarded many certifications and accolades. He worked closely with the Women's Center as an advocate and liaison for domestic violence as well as supervising the crime scene department.
In addition to his wife, Dawn, Dave is survived by his sons: Jacob, Justin (Ashley); and grandson, Carter;and beloved dog Barron. Also sadly missing Dave is his, mother, Carol (Walsh) Cooney; his siblings: Kathy Kruijs and Frank (Donna) Cooney; his nieces and nephews: Tomas and Ashley Kruijs, Dennis and Christopher Cooney. Mother-in-law, Pam (Miller) Evanuska; and brother-in-laws: Douglas (Heather) Evanuska, their children: Mikayla and Matthew; and David (Susan) Evanuska. Life long friends, Joe and Tracey King; and their children: Grace and Christopher are also mourning the loss of David.
David's sense of humor and witty jokes left a lasting impression on all that he met. His home was always open and you would be sure to find him barbecuing and enjoying backyard shenanigans.
The family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses and staff at Sloane Kettering Memorial hospital in their tireless efforts in his care.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 6, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. Gregory the Great Church, Danbury, CT. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
Friends will be received on Sunday, December 5, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT.
