Caridad T. Velez, 89, of Danbury, CT passed away on Sunday at Hancock Hall in Danbury. She was the wife of the late Manuel Velez. She was born in Isabela, Puerto Rico on September 24, 1923, a daughter of the late Julio Torrez and Paquita Ponce. A Danbury resident for over 50 years, she was previously of New York City. Caridad, along with her late husband, were founding member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Danbury. An employee with Danbury Hospital for over 20 years, she retired in the early 1980’s. Caridad was known for her friendly and outgoing personality; she dedicated her life to her children, grandchildren and church. Besides her husband and parents, Caridad was predeceased by a son, Samuel. Survivors include her sons: Nathan Velez of Danbury, David Velez of New Jersey, Hector Velez of Danbury and Manuel Velez, Jr. of New Milford. Her daughters: Esther Velez of Southbury and Miriam Negron of Danbury. Her siblings: Julio Torrez, Luis Torrez, Milagros Torrez, Nelida Lopez and Rosa Diaz, all of Isabela, PR. She is also survived by her four loving grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday at 1pm at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, with the Rev. Ramon L. Ramos, Pastor of the Kingdom Way Pentecostal Church in Danbury, officiating. Burial will be in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury in the spring. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 11am until the time of the service.
