Armando José Chamorro, 70, of 2 Hillendale Dr., New Milford, CT passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 27, 2024, after a battle with cancer. He was the husband of Maria E. Johnson and the father of Sebastián Abel Chamorro.
Armando was born in Lima, Peru, to Manuel Chamorro and Lucila Plazolles. He attended Colegio Champagnat in Lima, and received a B.A. degree in Economics from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and an M.A. degree, also in Economics, from the University of São Paulo, in Brazil. As an economist he held various positions throughout his career, from Financial Sector Consultant for the United Nations Development Program to Principal Economist at the Supervisory Agency for Investment in Public Transport Infrastructure (OSITRAN) in Peru, as well as several positions, including CFO, at the Andean and Spain External Bank (EXTEBANDES) in the Peruvian office. Later, until his retirement, Armando was employed as a Financial Sector Specialist, Capital Markets and Financial Institution Division, at the Inter-American Development Bank, a position in which he was posted to the country offices of the Dominican Republic, Panama, and Nicaragua.
A lifelong avid reader, Armando was happy to pursue that hobby voraciously once retired; he also discovered an interest in cooking and recipes which, combined with his love of travel, opened up new vistas for him. As well, he came to enjoy the rural life, enjoying the antics of the birds, raccoons, and other wildlife that frequented our back deck.
In addition to Maria and Sebastián, he is survived by his beloved sister, Esther Chamorro of Lima, Peru, and her children and grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Danbury Hospital and RVNA for their efforts on his behalf - he always felt very well cared-for in his last few months of life.
Funeral arrangements will be private and at the convenience of his family.
