Tony was born on November 10th, 1953 in Ferreiros Do Dao, Portugal, son of the late Antonio Lopes Nunes and Maria De Lurdes Mendes Amaral. He was a Paratrooper with the Portuguese Air Force and a founding member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Danbury.
Tony emigrated to the United States in 1977, living in Danbury and Brookfield over the last 45 years...working for Hubbell, Tenax and finally retiring from Weeks Auto Group in November of 2019.
Tony loved fishing, often bringing his 4 grandchildren to Sherwood Island to pass on one of his passions. When he wasn’t fishing, Tony could be found at his home in Brookfield, again with his 4 grandchildren tending to chickens, racing in the pool and caring for his vast garden with his wife. Later in life, Tony enjoyed building bird houses and bird feeders with his grandchildren, out of whatever he could find and placing them throughout his property and gifting them to family and friends. He took incredible joy in just watching the birds fly, perhaps taking him back to his days as a paratrooper.
In addition to his wife of 44 years, Tony’s gentle soul will carry on through his two sons: Steven and Michael Lopes. His daughter-in-law, Diana. His grandchildren: Donato, Caleb, Jacob and Abigail. His siblings: Jose, Horacio and Fatima. As well as his many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Lastly, his two fur grandbabies: Jaxon and Obi.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Danbury. Interment will be private
Friends will be received from 4pm-7pm on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.
