Alzira was born January 10, 1924 in Juncais, Portugal the daughter of the late Jose and Alzira (Batista) Gomes. She and her late husband Manuel Alexandre Ferreira immigrated to Mozambique, Africa in 1947 to begin their married life together, where their son Elio was born. In 1967, they moved to the United States to join Alzira’s parents and siblings in Danbury.
Alzira was an avid fan of the local Portuguese radio station W.F.A.R., and was a parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Danbury.
Alzira is survived by her son: Elio G. Ferreira and his wife Maria Fernanda Ferreira of Danbury, one brother: Jose Gomes of Danbury, one brother in law: Armando Ferreira and his wife Maria de Lurdes of Milford, two sisters in law: Amalia Ferreira and Maria Gomes, both of Danbury, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many wonderful friends whom she loved. Alzira was predeceased by her brothers: James and Alipio Gomes, and sisters: Lucinda (Gomes) Ferreira and Delfina (Gomes) Neves.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday March 13th at 10:30am in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Danbury. Burial will be in Saint Peter Cemetery, Danbury. The family will receive friends at the Green Funeral Home 57 Main Street Danbury on Tuesday March 12th from 5 thru 8 pm.
