Almorinda Maria Santos

Almorinda was born January 1, 1930 in Valado de Santa Quiteria (Alfeizerao), Portugal, to the late Amelia Guinada and Antonio de Carvalho. She immigrated to the United States in 1970 with her late husband, Antonio, and their three children. After retiring from Risdon Corp., she and her husband spent many wonderful years in Portugal.

Alzheimer’s may have claimed her mind, but never succeeded in capturing her heart or spirit.

Almorinda was a dedicated wife, devoted mom, wonderful grand and great grandmother. She was a great friend to all who knew her. She was a pretty good cook and loved gardening. She had a great disposition and a beautiful smile.

She will sadly be missed by her children, Manuel Santos and wife, Pam, of Florida; Filomena (Mena) Moreira and husband, Jose, of Connecticut; Zulmira (Mira) Galliger and husband, Chuck, of Texas.

Mourning her loss as well are her grandchildren: Anabelle Young (and husband Rick); Steven Santos (and wife Jennifer); Nicole Kraese (and husband Frank); Monika Bachman (and husband Chris); Philip Moreira; Ryan and Meghan Galliger.

Almorinda is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Mia Nicole Santos; Sailor Rose Young; Nicholas, Mason and Matthew Krase; and Wolfe Tiberio Bachman.

Almorinda was the sole survivor of 10, having been predeceased by 6 sisters and 3 brothers.

A celebration of life mass will be held on the 8th of March at Saint Joseph Church (8 Robinson Ave, Danbury, CT) at 10 am. Burial will be held in Portugal.

Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, March 8th from 08:30 am to 09:30 am at Green Funeral Home on 57 Main St, Danbury CT.

Almorinda’s family would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge with heartfelt gratitude, the great care she received from all the staff at Hancock Hall for more than eight years. Not only do they treat the residents like family, but they treat families, like family.
