Yowona Vee Hopson Woods passed away on May 10, 2020. She was 100 years old. Yowona was born in the small farming community of Hopkins County, TX on March 13, 1920 to Clarence Thomas and Bertha Mae Hopson. She spent her youth in Hopkins County before moving to Dallas where she married Scott Trail Woods and together they had two children, Scott, Jr. and Connie. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, great-aunt and friend. She raised her own children and later always helped with the raising of the grandchildren as well.
Yowona was member of Lakeside Baptist Church where she was involved in various church activities and Sunday school classes. A widow for the larger part of her adult life, Yowona remained busy working full time at The Maple Shop in the Casa Linda area and made sure to spend time with family and friends, always happy to host a gathering or visit. She truly enjoyed her loved ones and friends and made them a priority above all else. She and Scott would often take their grandchildren on camping trips and to a cabin that he built near Lake Texoma. She also took many trips to visit friends and relatives, and in her later years, travelled extensively with her daughter, Connie, and enjoyed cruises and other travel experiences with her.
She modeled kindness everyday, to everyone around her. She suffered much loss in her life, but had a strong faith and was able to laugh often and share joy with others. She always chose to see the best in people, stayed true to her values and was quick to tell her loved ones that she was proud of them. She worked hard to make a comfortable home for her family, but did not value things over relationships. She loved others in a big way and was always doing things for other people.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Mamie Joe Hopson, Evrita Mae Hopson Mays and L.D. Hopson, and her husband, Scott Trail Woods, her son, Scott Trail Woods, Jr. and her grandson, Thomas Jonathan Jackson Bardin. She is survived by her daughter, Connie Woods, her grandson, Robert Bardin and spouse, Daphne Fikes, and great-grandson, Jonathan Bardin; her granddaughter, Monica Woods, great-grandchildren, Tristan and Lucia Issitt, as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins of the Mayfield, Bonds, Smreker and Meisenbach families.
She will be greatly missed.
