Winston R. Smith

Mr. Smith was born June 7, 1933, in Abilene, Texas to Dewey L. and Ruth V. Smith. He grew up in Fisher County, Texas; graduated from Rotan High School in 1950, Baylor University in 1954, and the University of Texas Law School in 1960; and was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1960. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany in 1955 – 1956.

He married Patsy Ruth Conaway on August 22, 1953, in Marshall, Texas. They moved to Amarillo in 1960, and he joined the Underwood Law Firm where he spent his entire legal career. He was a member of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, was certified in Estate Planning and Probate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and served as President of the Amarillo Bar Association in 1980 -81. After retiring, he and his wife moved to Dallas, Texas.

Survivors include his wife Patsy, a daughter, Linda Smith Gavigan, and son-in-law, Thomas E. Gavigan, and granddaughters, Kristen Gavigan and Kate Gavigan, all of Dallas; and a sister and brother-in-law, Genelle and Luther Summers of Wichita Falls, Texas.

A Memorial Service will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 23, 2016 in the chapel at Sparkman / Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, Texas.
