William Rowland Edwards passed away on January 6, 2024. He will always be remembered as a loving father and friend to all who knew and loved him. He was born July 11, 1946, to Mildred and Rowland Edwards Sr. Rowland was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and the University of Texas in Austin. There he earned his degree in petroleum engineering and became a devout Longhorn fan. He and his former wife and enduring friend, Diane Dolberry, married and had four children: Melanie Edwards Florsheim, William Roland Edwards, III, Andrew Edwards, and Jon Paul Edwards. Rowland had twelve grandchildren, Jonathan, Jacob, and Jessica Florsheim; Evlyn, Julia , Lily, and Mia Edwards; Scarlet Edwards; and Delilah, Hazel, Caleb, and Edith Edwards.
Rowland worked as an engineer and started REO, Inc., an oil and gas company, in the 1970's. Later he had careers in real estate, construction, and engineering. He was active and productive to the end. Rowland loved the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, boating, riding motorcycles, and barbecuing. He was a lover of games, gin and dominos at Lakewood Country Club, and later bridge with his many friends at the Belmont Village. Rowland also loved to travel, although his favorite place was always his former Red Horse Ranch in Dusty, New Mexico.
Thirty years ago, Rowland met Katy Barker. They had a lasting and loving relationship joined by her son Benjamin Barker Witry, Ben's wife, Karla, and their daughter, Emily. They shared many wonderful times and memories.
A celebration of Rowland's life will be held February 3, 2024, at 1:30-3:30 at the Belmont Village, located at 3535 N. Hall St., Dallas, TX, 75219. There will be valet parking available. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity in Rowland's name.
