He was a faithful servant to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and his steadfast faithfulness sustained him throughout his life.
Bill was born and raised in Oak Cliff in Dallas County and was a member of the Boy Scouts of America Troop at the Cliff Temple Baptist Church, where his parents Mozelle and Howard Crutcher were active members. He graduated from Sunset High School in 1954 and obtained his B.S. from Baylor University. He received his M.D. from UT Southwestern Medical School in 1961.
From 1962-1964 Bill served as a Captain in the USAF in San Antonio, Texas. After his military service, he returned to Dallas to complete his internship and residency, specializing in Otolaryngology. He then began a 48 year career practicing medicine in Dallas as a fourth generation physician, where he cared for many patients who remember him as kind, thorough and gentle. He was also admired by his colleagues for both his character and his extraordinary technical skills as a surgeon.
Bill greatly loved his family and the fellowship of many lifelong and loyal friends. He was quick to smile and had a laugh that filled any room. His many interests included hunting, fishing, golf, genealogy and even a midlife crisis foray into motorcycling with a few biker buddies. He could often be found with a dog in his lap while eating a bowl of ice cream and watching a baseball game. He was an avid reader who could teach himself how to do almost anything and was most appreciated for his extensive “honey-do” skills. In 1981, he taught himself to use a Xerox 820 and pioneered using computers in a medical practice. His passion for computers and technology continued throughout his life.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Jane Wright Crutcher, daughter Sharon Crutcher Yoh (Hal) and their children Kristen, Catherine, Samantha and Madeline; son Mark Crutcher (Melanie) and their children Rhys and Natalie; son Paul Crutcher (Julia) and their children Thomas, Caroline and Matthew; and his beloved dog Mini. He was a proud great-grandfather to his three great-grandchildren, Lucy and James Schneider and Maeve Aion-Yoh.
