Born July 13, 1950 to Mary Rucker and Richard Collum in Dallas, Texas went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on April 17, 2014. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Gwin Collum, his parents Mary and Richard, and his step-father, Lewis James Riley and his brother, David Collum.
William is survived by his sister, Carol Robertson, her husband, Kurt and their children, Caroline and Sumner and his nephew, Damon Collum.
Bill loved his cats, riding his motorcycle, White Rock Lake, playing chess and writing. He had several poems and short stories published and received many accolades for his chess playing. He was invited to Russia to watch Bobby Fischer play in a chess tournament due to his many accomplishments on the chess board. Bill attended Military School and then graduated from Samuel High School. He received an Associates Degree in Arts and Sciences from Eastfield College. He worked at Lone Star Gas Co./TXU for 28 years and Pitney Bowes for 13 years.
Bill is a Vietnam Veteran and is a recipient of the Republic of Vietnam Service Medal, the Purple Heart Medal and the Silver Star Medal awarded to him for his actions of bravery and service during the Vietnam War.
Inurnment will be Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Sparkman Hillcrest at 10:30 a.m. in the Lakeside Cremation Garden
