He graduated from Weatherford High School and received a medical discharge from the United States Marine Corp.
Throughout his career, he worked for Mrs. Baird’s, Greyhound and he even owned a Shell & Texaco gas station. Later, Wilburn began a career in life insurance and was a trainer for Pacific Life. He was also a teacher for Worker’s Comp and General Liability for CIC and lastly became an independent insurance agent/agency owner.
Wilburn was a member of First Baptist Church of Mesquite. He is a former member of White Rock Baptist Church and Liberty Baptist Church.
Some his hobbies included wood carving and Rotary Club. Wilburn was very involved in church ministries. He served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and more recently was involved in the Tent Ministry for Texas Baptist Men.
Wilburn is preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Ann James Parker and is survived by his wife Elsie Parker, children: Debbie Loyd, Diane Pugh, Craig (wife Joanne) Parker, Donna (husband Donnie) Englert, Jim (wife Rebecca) Wagoner, Barbara June (husband Jim) Liberacki, Lillian (husband Robert) Hughes, Nancy (husband Brad) Lawler and Lisa (husband Melvin) Climer. Siblings that he leaves behind are: Bobby (wife Mary) Parker, C.A. (wife Judy) Parker, Don (wife Jeannette) Parker and Barbara Hanson. Wilburn also leaves to cherish in his memory are 25 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild as well as a host of family and friends.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 from 5-7 pm at Grove Hill Funeral Home 3920 Samuell Blvd Dallas, Texas and a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Mesquite 127 E. Kimbrough St. Mesquite, Texas 75149.
