Whitney Leigh Mayer passed away October 15, 2010 in Williamsburg, VA. She was born October 23, 1990 in Gaithersburg, MD. She graduated from Plano West Senior High school in 2009, and was attending The College of William and Mary where she was a Sharpe Scholar. She is survived by her parents Jeff and Diane, her sister Laura, and her brother Curt as well as her Grandfather and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Whitney will be remembered for the love and joy she gave to all. Her thoughtfulness and kindness toward others even in her time of passing will be a beacon of hope and resilience to those who knew her both briefly and intimately. Whitney was studying Environmental Sciences and had a true connection to nature that she lovingly shared with others. She was active with environmental/sustainability issues, the College Interfaith Council, tutoring and the Meridian Coffee House. Many commented on how she enlightened them of the beauty in this world in both the physical and the metaphysical. Whitney was a passionate animal lover from a very early age. She will always be remembered for her smile, great outlook on life and a genuine desire to help others. Visitation will be held at the Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home on Thursday, October 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. Services will be held at Sparkman/Hillcrest Northwest Highway Chapel on Friday, October 22 at noon. A special memorial will be held in the meadows of the Arbor Hills Nature Preserve at 6701 W.
