Werner John Perlitz, Jr., passed away peacefully on January 30, 2012 at the age of 83. Born on September 1, 1928, the eldest son of Werner and Kathleen Perlitz of Austin. John received a Business Degree from Rice University after achieving Eagle Scout rank and graduating from high school in Port Arthur at the age of sixteen. A member of Phi Gamma Delta, John attended University of Texas Law School for 2 years. He entered the Navy serving three years on staff of one of the destroyer divisions in the Pacific. While stationed in California, he met and married his beloved wife and mother of their three children, Velda Miller of Bakersfield, California, who preceded him in death after 32 years of marriage. They returned to Texas where John began a successful career with IBM. While in New Jersey, John kindled a passion of snow skiing that continued throughout his lifetime. Additionally, John was an avid sailor and accomplished tennis player. One of his great blessings was to marry Marcia Goodwin of Dallas on July 7, 1989. John retired from IBM in Dallas and enjoyed the next 22 years traveling with Marcia and leading an active life involved in many social and civic affairs. A devoted Catholic, John served on the finance council and as a lay Eucharistic minister at St. Monica’s parish. He is survived by his loving wife, Marcia Perlitz, his sister, Patricia Williams, his daughter, Theresa and husband Joe Latham, granddaughters Katherine and Emily, his sons, Michael Perlitz and Thad and wife Cyndy Perlitz, grandsons Cole and Evan, stepdaughter, Delisa and husband Marc Schlachter, grandsons Jack, Luke, Joe and Sam, and stepson, Kenneth Goodwin. Visitation will be held 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Sparkman/Hillcrest Northwest Hwy. Chapel, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Monica Catholic Church, Rev. Stephen Bierschenk, celebrant. Graveside service 12:00 p.m. Friday at Austin Memorial Park, Austin, Texas. In lieu of flowers, make donations to St. Monica’s Building Fund.
