Walt graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, a National Merit Scholar with honors. He received a scholarship from Washington University, St. Louis, MO, where he was the protégé of Howard Nemerov, former Poet Laureate of the United States who said Walt was the most talented student he had ever had. Walt was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.
After graduation from college, he did some graduate work at Perkins Theology at S.M.U. Although a devout Christian, Walt was a dedicated student of all religions.
Walt worked for some time at the family business, Goodman Paper Products, but being an accomplished musician, he chose a career in music. He taught piano. Walt was a good person; always kind and helpful. He loved people and people loved him. He will be missed by his many friends.
Walt was a life-long member of Highland Park United Methodist Church and was an active member of the Preston Group and the Two Four Club.
He is survived by his parents, his sister Sally G. Goodman, an aunt Julia Farris Gilbert and cousins Julie Ann Groth, Larrison Cody Goodman, Jr., Paula Goodman Davis, Melissa S. Rosner, Alex Lloyd Goodman, Fae Ensslin of Va and Wm. C. Garlow of Cody, WY.
Services will be held on Friday, June 9, 2017, at 1:00 P.M. in Cox Chapel of Highland Park United Methodist Church, Dallas, TX with the Reverend Walt Marcum officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
