Vivian Ann Smith

She was born November 19, 1921 in Dallas, TX to William Lacy and Mame Summerville Smith. Vivian and Merl were married for over 60 years. They owned and operated Avalawn Cleaners, the oldest family dry cleaning business in Oak Lawn for over 30 years. After retiring they worked at Ellen Terry Realtors that was bought by Ebby Halliday Realtors in 1998, where she retired from at a young 90 years old.

Vivian was a special soul. She had a heart of gold and a fist of steel; her vivacious, caring and compassionate ways would always turn heads. She loved her family, working, good food and socializing. Some of her favorite pastimes were reading, writing, receiving letters and going to the beauty shop. She thoroughly enjoyed her Saturday lunches with her daughter, granddaughters and great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her husband, Merl Earl Smith, in 2003, Vivian will be very missed by her son, Steven Smith of Dallas, who has cared for her over the past 5 years, her daughter Cheryl Scherr and her husband Frederick of Dallas, her grandchildren Christy Kemendo and her husband Johnny of Dallas, Doug Scherr and his wife Shannon of Plano, Dennis Scherr and his wife Catherine of Plano, Dustin Scherr and his wife Erin of Frisco; and her ten great-grandchildren, Courtney, Morgan and Jack Kemendo, Alexander, Hayden and Paige Scherr, Charles and Grace Scherr; Sam and Gracie Scherr; and numerous nieces and nephews; as well as, a large extended family and many dear friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday evening, October 10, 2017, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Hwy, Dallas TX. Graveside services will be Wednesday, October 11, 2017. at 11:00 am at Restland Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX. Pallbearers are Steven Smith, Johnny Kemendo, Doug Scherr, Dennis Scherr, Dustin Scherr, Jack Kemendo, Hayden Scherr, Charles Scherr and Sam Scherr.
