Vivian Blackmore was born May 25, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, the second of two daughters born to the union of Edward and Gertrude Porter. Vivian’s beloved sister, Christine, and her parents preceded her in heavenly transition. Vivian exchanged her robe of mortal flesh for one of immortality and joined her family late morning on December 6, 2020.
She attended elementary school in Chicago and graduated from Wendell Phillips High School. She later married Ulysses Grant Jones. During this time, Vivian was employed and dedicated many years of service at Spiegel’s in Chicago.
She accepted Christ at an early age, attending Roberts Temple Church of God in Christ under the pastorship of Bishop Isaiah Roberts. She was a member of the choir and served in the Women’s Christian Guild Organization. She later joined the Monument of Faith Evangelistic Church under the pastorate of Reverend Richard Henton.
In 1956, Vivian was joined in holy matrimony with John Blackmore. In this holy union, Vivian and John raised their sons, Bruce E. Jones and Heinz Blackmore, in Chicago. After several years, employment relocated John and Vivian to the state of Michigan, and Vivian spent many years in an administrative position in the Niles Community Schools District in Niles, Michigan. In Michigan, the Blackmores joined First Assembly of God Church and remained faithful members until John’s death in 1990. Shortly after his passing, Vivian returned to Chicago to live with her mother. During that time, Vivian spent time with her mother crocheting, solving her word puzzles, and reading her Bible: habits and hobbies she maintained up to her own passing.
In 2005, Vivian moved to Desoto, Texas, to be near her oldest son, Bruce, after his many years of international and national service in the U.S. Army. In Texas, she first joined Friendship-West Baptist Church under the pastorate of Dr. Frederick Haynes III, and later in 2013, joined Community Missionary Baptist Church, under the pastorship of Reverend Oscar Epps Sr., serving as a faithful member until her passing.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory, her sons, Bruce Jones (Brenda) and Heinz Blackmore, her nieces Valerie, Tiffany, and Danielle Robinson, and Carlene Gaines; her nephews, James Hadley, Jr., and Oliver Hadley (Faye); six (6) grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
