Virginia Guthrie Lang passed away in her sleep on June 1, 2022, after a life-long battle with Rett Syndrome, a rare, genetic neurological disorder. While Virginia fought the difficulties of Rett Syndrome daily, it is not Rett Syndrome that defined her. Instead, Virginia’s legacy will forever be defined by the beautiful life she lived and the countless lives she changed along the way.
Virginia’s happy place was the swimming pool, which you could measure by the giggles that she could not contain each time her toes touched the water. She was fortunate to attend Rise School and Lakewood Elementary, where she forged strong bonds with the teachers who diligently cared for her and enduring friendships with her classmates and their families. Virginia loved dressing up with her mom, dazzling everyone with perfect depictions of historic women every Halloween and, of course, a great hair bow each day. She was the world’s most beautiful flower girl, each of her doctors’ best and bravest patient and a VIP at her favorite restaurant, Mi Cocina’s in Lakewood. Recently, Virginia visited California with her family, where she delighted in the crisp, ocean air and daily trips to the beach. More than anything, however, Virginia loved being snuggled up on the couch with her family and her dogs, Brenda and Radley, to watch a movie or take a nap – or just be together.
Virginia’s beauty radiated from the inside out, with an angelic spirit that shown through bright, expressive eyes, delicate features and beautiful, soft red hair. Her sweet smile and laugh could light up any room and, though she could not walk or talk, Virginia brought joy to all who knew her. Being around Virginia made people want to be kinder, gentler, better. There is perhaps no greater testament to how special Virginia Lang was than the great loss that so many people feel in her absence.
Along with a large extended family, Virginia is survived by her loving parents, Amanda and Michael Lang, and her big sister Neely, who she looked up to more than anyone else in the world.
Services for Virginia will be on Friday, June 24th, at 11:00. They will be at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 6306 Kenwood Ave., Dallas, Texas, 75214.
