I just learned today about Vanessa and my heart dropped! What a special lady you were! You had such a giving and kind heart. I enjoyed working with you.
I pray that your family has understanding, strength and peace and that your soul is restful!

My sincerest condolences to Vanessa's family and friends. I only just saw this news and am heartsick. I met Vanessa when we were law school students and clerked at the Texas Civil Rights Project together in the summer of 1997. I came from Georgia and didn't know anyone in Austin, but Vanessa quickly became a friend. We went to the classic movie theater together to see Vertigo on her suggestion, which was such a fun time. She let my dearest friend from Georgia (who she never met) stay at her apartment when the friend came to visit during my summer clerkship. Vanessa was incredibly smart, funny and kind. I can still hear her singing "Ain't No Sunshine" in the office to one of the lawyers as a light-hearted joke. We traded emails and cards over the years since, but not as many as I would have liked. I am so very sorry, she made the world a brighter place.

To Frankie L. Pogue and Family, I extend my deepest sympathy to all of you.  May God lift and extend His love to all of you doing this difficult time. I only wish that I could be with all of you. As you know I cannot be with you do to my illness. Nonetheless, my prayers are with each of you all throughout the lifting of this heavy burden.

Vanessa was one of my best friends at Spelman College. I give thanks for the gift of a lifetime with her being a sister of my heart. Gone and never forgotten. Thank you, Vanessa, for finding me and reconnecting last year. Your sudden transition would feel more devasting if we hadn't connected. I was looking forward to us connecting more but I know that your spirit now soars as a chief ancestor for your family and for our Spelman community. 
Though I am deeply saddened, I know your family is even more so and so to you, Vanessa's beautiful family, I send my deepest heart felt sympathies from my family and all of the Spelman Class of 1992. We are so sorry for your loss and please know that you are in our prayers.

My deepest heartfelt condolences to Vanessa's family. I have worked closely with Vanessa for the past few years and I feel very lucky to  have had that opportunity - her insights and perspective have been invaluable - with respect to work and otherwise - and she has been a wonderful colleague. Her talent was limitless and it seemed like she was just getting started. Just devastating.

I worked closely with Vanessa for the past three years, and she was a great colleague and a wonderful person.  Vanessa was not only hardworking and incredibly smart, she was also kind and full of sunshine.

Our Practical Law team relied heavily on her skills, insight, and talents, and her work was always top-notch and greatly appreciated. She also helped bring DEI issues to light on our team in a wonderful, caring, and engaging way. She was a lovely, open, warm person and she will be greatly missed! I will forever keep all the memories of the good times we shared together. Your first day working at City Hall for Mayor David Dinkins, the tour of City Hall you showed me and the celebratory lunch we shared on that day along with your vibrant personality will stay with me forever. To me one of life's hardest moments is mourning the loss of  a  friend, family member and loved ones. I take comfort reassurance, hope and strength in the word of the Lord. The first thing I thought about when I heard of Vanessa’s passing is I know the angels in heaven are playing that Cello that she use to play while in    high school. I remember how much I admired her dedication to that instrument and much time she spent perfecting her skills. Anyway that was Vanessa’s life doing her best at whatever she put her mind toward.
