Beloved by his family and friends, Trevor Monroe Phelan passed away on December 31, 2021, much too soon at the age of 32. Trevor was born in Dallas, Texas, on December 21, 1989, the son of Robin Eric Phelan and JoAnn Keach Phelan (who preceded him in death in 1994) and Melinda Ricketts Phelan. Together they had many wonderful years with Trevor and his three siblings, Travis Phelan, Tiffany Phelan O'Connor and Taezja Phelan (all of whom survive him).
Trevor was a wonderful child, full of life and energy. He loved playing any kind of sport and was wickedly ambidextrous. He excelled at football, baseball, soccer, lacrosse, hockey, ping pong, basketball, golf, swimming -- any sport you can think of Trevor played and played well. Trevor was a devoted fan of Ohio State football, like his dad, and the Dallas Cowboys, Stars and Mavericks his entire life.
Ever since he was six years old, Trevor went to Tennessee to visit his grandparents, David and Glenda Ricketts, his uncle, Mickey Ricketts, and aunt, Julie Ricketts Lowry, at every opportunity. He couldn't wait to spend time there, fishing, riding four wheelers on the farm and going to the lake. His large Tennessee family also included great-grandparents and lots of cousins, aunts and uncles, and he entertained them all with his charm and quick wit.
Trevor had many friends when he attended both the Episcopal School of Dallas and Lutheran High School and was highly regarded by his teachers and coaches. He played on many sports teams and made friendships for life.
Trevor met and married his love, Shelby Shaw Phelan, who he leaves behind along with his eight year old son, Aden Monroe Phelan. Trevor loved Aden with all his heart and was very proud to be a father. He found no greater joy than spending time with Aden playing sports, taking trips to Disneyland and the beach and having fun with their Husky, Thor.
Trevor was truly unforgettable and the life of any party. He was engaging and smart, and his beautiful eyes and smile were infectious. He was incredibly kind, caring, loving, funny, handsome and forgiving. Trevor was enrolled in college to pursue his dream of becoming a counselor to help others. He was also very spiritual, a confirmed Christian who often spoke of how his faith carried him through life.
Trevor leaves behind his devoted, large and extended family and many friends who will always remember him as a loving son, husband, father, brother, grandson, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
There will be a private entombment Friday, January 21, 2022 at the mausoleum at Sparkman-Hillcrest followed by a private Celebration of Life for family and close friends at 3:00 pm at Cochran Chapel United Methodist Church which will be streamed live on Facebook on the church's page. Log into Facebook and search for Cochran Chapel United Methodist Church to join the service live.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Trevor's name to Hope Cottage online at www.hopecottage.org.
