Tina Borschow Novick, 63, of Dallas, passed away suddenly on February 10, 2019 while vacationing in Arizona. She was born in El Paso, Texas on April 21, 1955 to the late Paul Irving Borschow and Dorothy Zimmerman Borschow. Tina graduated from Coronado High School in El Paso, and the University of Texas in Austin, achieving a Bachelor of Education degree in May 1977. Tina was an accomplished elementary school teacher for many years, principally at the Jewish Day School of Metropolitan Seattle, where she will be fondly remembered as “Hamorah Tina” by the hundreds of children whom she taught. Tina also served for several years as a very talented professional focus group moderator and project manager at GMA Research in Bellevue, WA.
Tina and her husband Michael moved back to Texas two years ago to be closer to family, after living in Bellevue, WA for 28 years. They traveled the world and North America together always enjoying friends, colleagues, food and culture.
Tina was a consummate volunteer and non-profit leader, having served on numerous charitable boards and committees in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Seattle and Dallas. She served as President of National Council of Jewish Women, Seattle Section; and the National NCJW Board; Past President of Women’s Division and Chair of the Jewish Education Council, Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle, as well as the Federation Board and its Women’s Endowment Foundation. Tina volunteered on numerous Boards including the Stroum Jewish Community Center of Mercer Island, WA; Jewish Day School; and Herzl-Ner Tamid Conservative Congregation. She also served as a trainer/facilitator to non-profit organizations in Board Development, Leadership Development, and Strategic Planning.
Tina loved reading novels, working daily crossword puzzles, playing Mahjong and online games with her closest friends. She was a master in the kitchen, lovingly preparing tasty meals for all to enjoy, especially her family and friends. Most of all, Tina enjoyed being with and caring for all her grandchildren
Tina is survived by her husband of forty years, Michael; mother Dorothy Borschow of Dallas; sister Sandra Veeder (David) of Dallas; and children Daniel Stephen Novick (Rebecca) and their two children, Miles Parker and Julia Rose of Dallas; and Alyssa Gail Zupnick (Daniel) and their children, Temima Esther and Nosson Leib of Scottsdale, AZ.
Funeral services will be at 10 am. Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at Temple Emanu-El, 8500 Hillcrest Avenue, Dallas. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tina’s memory are suggested to the Jewish Day School of Metropolitan Seattle, Jewish Family Service of Greater Dallas, or a charitable organization of your choice.
