The story of Timothy Bennett began July 19, 1951 in Dallas, Texas. Clyde Bennett, Sr. and Lorene High Bennett lovingly welcomed their 2nd child. Clyde Sr., laid the foundation of a strong work ethic and “Madea” displayed the importance of family. Tim’s elementary school years were at K.B. Polk Elementary near Dallas Love Field. A no-nonsense time in history when a student’s slight infraction would yield a personal home visit to the parents from the principal. In high school, Tim joined his big brother, Leo. They both walked the same halls of Dallas’ Booker T. Washington as their father did 20 years prior. Tim transferred to Thomas Jefferson High School in north Dallas in 1968. Tim discovered the trombone. Hours and hours of practicing, his size 13 shoe sent stomping shockwaves across the Ellum Thicket neighborhood. His blaring brass tones rattled neighbors’ windows. They didn’t mind because he practiced with passion and was determined to excel. Tim’s stomping continued when he joined the brotherhood of Alpha Phi Alpha at North Texas State University of Denton. Tim earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He later earned his Master’s degree in Business Management at Amber University. Because he loved and emulated the runs and adlibs of Sam Cooke, you could hear Tim’s barreling baritone voice in the halls of “The Quads” his dormitory at any time day or night.
At NTSU, Tim met and married his beautiful and graceful bride, a TWU Library Services major. Her library would no longer be silent. Tim and Ann started their family in 1972, with Timothy Rondahl, aka, “Ron”. While Ann was away at work, father and son bonded. Tim put Ron the exclusive diet of beans and cornbread, daily. Daily! Ann returned from work to see her growing son, grow into a butterball, daily. From her birth in 1975, Tim encouraged leadership, and athletic competiveness in his 2nd born, Andrea Nicole aka “Nicki”. She is the crisis manager. Anthony completed the Tim and Ann Bennett family package in 1981. Anthony learned from his father compassion. Tim taught him to dream big and never give up. A lesson he’s applied in his life and extended to others.
Tim worked as Financial Analyst at several defense corporations such as, E-Systems, Rockwell International, Boeing, and L3 Communications. He was dedicated to his career and carried it with him everywhere… in his briefcase. Tim took over Bennett Landscape in 1992 upon the passing of his father. He cultivated and maintained longtime family relationships. Tim treated his clients and employees as family. When they needed, he provided.
Tim was very active at the Bethany Missionary Baptist Church of Dallas. Now Reverend, L.M. Walton was Scout Master for the Boys Scout troop #158. Tim learned life’s principals of survival, protection, and leadership. Tim was superintendent of the Sunday school, a deacon, a member of the Male chorus, the Trustee board and the Finance Committee. Tim faithfully attended Brotherhood meetings and Bible study. As a couple, Tim and his wife Ann both prayerfully led the Marriage ministry, encouraging and standing as examples of walking in faith, love and marriage.
Tim served as National Secretary for the Anthropos, the husbands’ branch of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Delta Epsilon Chapter. Tim tutored teenage students through a volunteer program at Berkner High School in Richardson. He mentored students in the Local Heroes Baseball Organization. Coaching students and young athletes was dear to his heart. He passionately coached and encouraged them to push their boundaries and work harder. If heaven did not have a Softball team, it does now. Tim played Softball at each of his companies. Tim proudly wore his championship rings on special occasions to display his teams accomplishments. The Pirate Family was just that, his family. His ice chest was your ice chest.
Tim always wanted people together. Whether it was Tuesday night barbecues, Wednesday night bowling, Cowboys watch parties (win or lose), impromptu sing-alongs, your child’s little league game random bear hugs, Tim wanted you to feel loved. Tim would ask you a question he knew the answer to, in order to engage conversation and lovingly stir your emotion. He wanted you to feel included.
His work here is done. He fought the good fight, he finished the race. He kept the faith. II Timothy 4:7.
Left to cherish the legacy he created; Wife Mary Ann, Sons Timothy Rodahl Bennett, Anthony Gerold Bennett, Daughter Andrea Nicole Bennett Sherry, Mother Lorene High Bennett, Brother Clyde Lanston, Bennett Jr., Sisters Cynthia Bennett Marshall and Elaine Bennett. Catloth. Tim joins in eternal rest his father Clyde Bennett, Sr. (October 1992) and Brother Gerold Leo Bennett (November 1997).
Rest in Peace.
