On May 28, 1954, Tom entered the world into the loving home of Eugene and Nancy Riordan in Tyler, TX. They spent a brief time in Jackson, MS and New Orleans, LA before making Dallas, TX their permanent home.
Tom attended W.T. White High School, where he excelled in football and baseball and was a member of the National Honor Society. After graduating from high school in 1972, his heart was set on attending Texas Christian University. He was able to walk-on to the Horned Frogs baseball team and earn a full four-year scholarship.
After college, Tom spent most of his working years in the general contracting and custom home building business. He built many notable structures and incredible homes throughout the metroplex, while forging meaningful relationships with his contractors and clients. Tom continued to pursue athletic challenges, completing seven marathons and countless biathlons and triathlons.
In 1992, Tom married the love of his life, Linda Demarest, whom he met working at her local deli and gift shop in Addison, TX. Tom and Linda had a wonderful life together. They worked hard running their businesses and raising, coaching, and guiding their children. Linda and Tom were lucky enough to travel the world together, sharing wonderful memories in Switzerland, Portugal, Alaska, Scotland, and many other destinations.
It was rare that Tom would enter a restaurant without running into someone he knew, even then, he would be quick to make a new friend. He always had a knack for a quick-witted and well-timed joke from the back of the room, always getting a kick out of the smile and laughter of those around him.
Tom was a charter member and past president of the Addison Rotary Foundation and always remained committed to all the incredible people there and their shared causes.
Tom is survived by his mother, Nancy Riordan; his wife Linda, of 30 years; three children, Steven (Daneé), Angela (Bradley) Allen, and Randy (Brittney) Demarest; his two sisters, Carolyn (Dave) Crew of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Martie (Howie) Dickman of Durango, CO, his eight grandchildren, Alyssa, Aubrie and Ariana Allen, Aliya, Amelia and Beau Demarest, and Hattie and Hayes Riordan. He was preceded in death by his son, Matthew and his father, Eugene.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Tom’s memory go to The Tom Riordan Memorial at AddisonRotaryOpen.org, reflecting his commitment to making the world a better place through acts of kindness and compassion.
