12, 2011. Born April 23, 1920 in Martinsville, Va., he was preceded in death by his parents, Bradley Thomas and Grace Booker Johnson, his loving wife Ginny of 56 years, brother, Bradley T. Johnson, and sisters Mary Ryan and Anne Matthews. Tom attended Ryan School of Aeronautics in San Diego, Ca., prior to serving in U.S. Marine Corp. 1944-1946. He met and married his loving wife Ginny in 1949, while attending the University of Virginia and graduated in 1952, with a B.S. in Architecture. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. In 1952 the family moved to Dallas, and began his career with Ling-Temco- Vaught in Grand Prairie as an Aeronautical Engineer. He and Ginny were members of St. Monica Catholic Church and later the Prince of Peace Catholic Community in Plano. Tom's life long hobby was his watercolor art. His art reflected his interests in architecture with numerous paintings of the Jeffersonian Architecture at UVA, landscapes, maritime, coastal and Cape Cod subjects, Big Bend and Texas Hill Country. He was an advocate of weekend plien air paint-outs with the Southwestern Watercolor Society. A Signature, Lifetime Member and past President of the Southwestern Water Color Society since 1964, he wrote and published the History and Development of the Southwestern Water Color Society 13th Anniversary. He was also a member of the American Society of Marine Artists, Dallas Visual Arts Center, and Lifetime Active Member of Richardson Civic Art Society, and the U.S. Coast Guard Art Program. He was an avid sailor and enjoyed sharing his love for sailing at White Rock Boat Club and later the Grapevine Venture Sailing Club with his children.Tom designed and built their family home of 45 years on Crestover Drive and many other architectural drawings for his friends. He enjoyed remodeling his home, and designing and building elaborate play structures with his children. He also held several patents on his designs for painting easels and accessories. Tom is survived by his seven children: Steve and Debbie Johnson, Jennifer (Wendy) and Hank Holt, Trish and Jack Dimon, Kitty and Charlie Ross, Thomas (Skip) and Sabine Johnson, Mike and Carolyn Johnson, Susan and Steve Key. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren: Brad and Katherine Johnson, Hunter Johnson, Wes and Yolli Strawn, Garrett and Lauren Dimon, Tyler Dimon, Danny Ross, Stephanie Ross, Ian and Brittany Johnson, Shelby Wilkins, Katelyn Key, and William Key. Two great-grandchildren: Campbell Johnson, and Isabella Dimon, with two additional great- grandchildren of Brad and Katherine and Wes and Yolli both expecting early next year. Also survived by Sharon Rembert, Seddon Wylde, “artist” niece Anne Seddon Lemaire, sister-in-law Zenita Johnson, niece Seddon Johnson, nephew Bradley T.Johnson and family, Cathy and Bill Burgess and their children Paul and Sarah. We would like thank his long time caregivers Leslie Johns, John Saboleh and Deborah Minton,from My Care Personal Assistance, Faith Hospice and their assisting nurses Toni Birdsong, Terri Dobbs and Robert Thompsons and. of course, his loving canine companion BB. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 13th from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm with a rosary being recited at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held in the North Chapel of Calvary Hill Mausoleum on, December 14th, at 12:00 pm, followed by a gathering in the Hospitality Room at Calvary Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer Association (Greater Dallas Chapter) , SWS, RCAS or the charity of your choice.
