Thelma Smith Franklin was born on March 14, 1914, to the parentage of Richard Smith and Amanda Chamberlin Smith. From this union, fifteen children were born, Thelma being the thirteenth child. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of St. Davis Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana, under the leadership of the late Rev. C.D. Williams. She later moved to Dallas, Texas, and joined Victory Missionary Baptist Church under the late Rev. T.L. Edwards and then under Rev. B.R. Walker. She later moved her membership to Turning Point Church under the leadership of Bishop B.R. Walker. She was a faithful member until her passing. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Amanda Smith; her three husbands, Booker Wilson, Doc Williams and Archie Franklin; five children, Odis Cochran, Henry Wilson, Ivester Wilson, Jannie Jordan and Dorothy Williams; eight grandchildren, Danny, Sie Jr., Brenda, Patrick, Anthony, Bessie, John and Margaret; six sisters, Emma, Rosie, Bessie, Leider, Lucy and Idell; and eight brothers, Clarence, Charlie, Sam, John, Estell, Issac, Ruther and Richard Jr. She leaves to cherish her memories, her two daughters, Mercile Franklin Duncan and Virginia Faye Perry; two sons-in-law, Robert Duncan and Roy Perry; and a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
