A BLESSED SOUL: Thelma Ruth Davis was born on July 1, 1948 in Dallas, Texas to Selina and Thurmon Davis. Thelma was the last of eight children. Sisters: Martha Louis Williams, Cora Sue Reedy, Shirley Jean Tittle, Hollis Daniel Davis, Robert Allen Davis, Johnnie Fern Mullins, Gloriastene Green.
Thelma’s strong faith in God was instilled by her parents. She was raised in Church of the Living God under the leadership of Mary Belk. She was baptized at an early age. She was a longtime member of New Waverly Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor R.T. Conley. Later in life she joined Mt. Rose Church under the leadership of Bishop Jeffery D. Thomas, Sr. Thelma had a special relationship with God and would spend time daily worshiping and praising God for all his glories. As a child she attended George Washington Carver Elementary School, Sequoia Junior High and graduated from L. G. Pinkston High School class of 1965. She received an associate degree from Mountain View Community College where she was inducted into the academic honor society. In 1965, Thelma gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Dana L Davis. Followed by the birth of Chinique K. Davis (Ward-Pea), Kendra K. Davis (Damiane Gardner), Thurmon A. Fields, Jenea L. Fields, and bonus son; Patrick Williams. Thelma was a proud mom. She loved hearing the laughter of her children in unison. She would walk into any room and instantly was the center of attention. She could dance all night and into the morning.
Thelma was proceeded in death by her parent Selina and Thurmon Davis, sisters Martha, Shirley, Johnnie Fern, brothers Robert and Hollis, son-in-laws Sammy Ward and Andre Pea.
She was adored by her grandchildren who referred to her as Ms. Thelma/Granny: Kamaron Porter, Terika Ward, Samaj Ward, Neiman Ward, Darrius Gardner, Myles Gardner, Syir Fields and Rayan Fields. Great grandchildren: Zion Walker and Zemira Paisley Pride. She had a host of relatives and friends that she cherished and would spend hours on the phone laughing with. She was loved by and and will be greatly missed. Ms. Thelma left a lasting imprint on the heart on anyone she met.
