Sue grew up in Hebron, OH, surrounded by her loving mother, sister, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. While attending the University of Hawai’i in Honolulu, she met her first husband, Edwin A. Allbritton. Sue and Ed were married in 1969. After a brief period living in Manhattan, they moved to Dallas, where they raised their two daughters, Leigh and Hillary. Sue completed her undergraduate education at Baylor University.
Sue was a passionate advocate for the arts in Dallas. She served as a board member for the Dallas Ballet for several years, and was instrumental in raising the initial funding for the Dallas Arts District. She worked backstage at over 200 performances of The Nutcracker, as well as several other ballets. Sue was also an active volunteer at The Hockaday School and Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church.
After her daughters entered college, Sue moved to Orange Beach, AL, where she met and married her husband, Thomas B. Whiting, in 1995. Sue and Tom then moved to Phoenix, AZ, where she earned her Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine. She enjoyed a successful career as a Naturopathic Family Medicine Physician and as the Director of Labor and Delivery in hospitals in Arizona, California and Hawaii.
Her love of the ocean and beach was evident by her choice to spend many years living in Honolulu, Hawaii; Orange Beach, Alabama; Lompoc, California; and Waimea, Hawaii. When not working, she spent much of her free time traveling to see her daughters and her grandchildren, taking them to the beach and on adventures to Disneyland.
She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas Beverley Whiting, daughters Leigh Ashley Allbritton of Dallas, TX and Hillary Allbritton Kokes of Los Angeles, CA; Hillary’s husband Dr. Mark Kokes and their daughters, Hadley and Avery; sister Jeanne Harris of Australia; and several cousins and family. She is preceded in death by her father, Earle Harris, mother, Dorothy Keener Asselin, and stepfathers Jack Amspaugh and Joseph Asselin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Hawai’i Community Foundation to aid in recovery for the Big Island https://www.hawaiicommunityfoundation.org/volcanorecovery or the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org).
