Susan Lucas Hudnall, 78, of Dallas, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2022. She was born on December 5, 1943, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Vogel & Jacquelyn (Voncille) Gettier. Susan was a 1962 graduate of Richardson High School in Richardson, Texas. Susan went on to attend the University of Texas, where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Math Education. She spent most of her teaching career as a math teacher in Boston, MA and Richardson, TX before retiring to assist in her husband’s dental practice.
Throughout her life, Susan enjoyed golfing and was an exceptional tennis player. She adored her dogs, Greta and Gertie, whom provided much joy to her over the years. Susan was a member of Prestonwood Baptist Church for many years, where she was involved in a tutoring ministry and Sunday school activities.
Susan was a faithful follower of Christ, a lover of people and of life. Her faith, family, and friends were always her priority, as Susan truly embodied the love and mercy of Christ wherever she was. Although quiet natured, Susan exemplified an inner strength that would outlast others on their best day. Whatever happened in her life, Susan embodied grace, resiliency, and perseverance. After 32 wonderful years of marriage with her first husband, Wilson, he was tragically killed. Soon after, she met Mickey Hudnall, whom she felt the Lord put in her life for reasons bigger than she could comprehend. Susan married Mickey in 2004, and embraced his children as her own. Her trust in God was never in question as she quickly learned that she was right where she needed to be – to love and take care of Mickey and his boys, which was exactly God’s plan all along. They quickly became a loving, blended family, whom Susan found joy in loving and caring for. Her devotion to her family was unsurmountable, and the overwhelming unconditional love she poured on so many remained constant throughout her life. Susan was a wonderful giver, yet never expecting anything in return. She was a devoted friend to so many and cherished those friends in return. The road she took was always God-driven, and although the road was sometimes challenging, Susan found joy in every turn while being a blessing to others. Her unwavering faith and devotion to family leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered for generations to come.
In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by her first husband, Wilson Lucas, and brother, Skip Gettier. She is survived by her husband of 18 years, Mickey Hudnall; children, Morgan (Anna) Hudnall of Nursery, Texas, Mason (Jenny) Hudnall of Grapevine, TX, Chad (Kim) Hudnall of Ponte Vedra, Florida, Beverly (John) Kay of Irvington, Virginia, and Susan Hudnall of Dallas, Texas; and her legacy lives on in her 10 grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Nanette (Bobby) Keao of Kauai, Hawaii; brother, Steve Gettier of Ashland, North Carolina; special niece, Rae Nicole (Justin) Banasihan of Kauai, Hawaii; and other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at 10:00am at Prestonwood Baptist Church, 6801 W. Park Blvd., Plano, Texas 75093, with Dr. Jack Graham officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at pancan.org.
