Every year as the 18th approaches, I am struck with a sadness at losing Sue. She was one of a kind, and one of the most thoughtful, loving people I had the pleasure of working around at DPD. Sue was the kind of person who truly touched the lives of all who knew and worked with her. I am honored  that Sue called me friend. She was loved by many, and respected by all. Miss you, Pocket Cop!

I think of your family so often and have a heart that misses my best friend, Sue and Mommer and Roy.  I'd love to give Sue a call today to say Happy Birthday and sing her a silly rendition of the song like I used to do.  I miss Mommer and her sweet and friendly and kind heart. I loved to visit with her and have such enjoyable conversations. I miss Roy too.  He inspired me in college to go to law school.  Anne you inspired me toward faith in Christ with your highlighted and underlined Bible that I borrowed back in around 1978.  I love you Dadder and keep you in my prayers and am so grateful to you for passing to me and my family the faith in Christ that you've never wavered in holding onto. You gave me a family I always needed.  I love you so much and your faithfulness is already counted to you in at least 3 more generations. And of course because of you Dadder and Ann Kimmel I'm reminded to Never Ever Give Up! I love you Dadder!

My prayers will always be with the loving family of Sue Smith, her dear friends, and her co-workers at the Dallas Police Dept.  Sue was a jewel on this earth, and she will never be forgotten. Peace be with Sue, and to all that knew her.

Mommer, Dadder and Anne,
How much you mean to me!  I think of Sue so often and miss her so much.  But I know someday we will all be re-united, and nothing will be able to separate us from the love of God here on earth or in heaven!  Soon you will be "great grand parents in the Lord" as my daughter Anna has her firstborn son, Gabriel.  It is only because of your faithfulness and love to me that the truth of God's Love and Salvation came to me through Jesus and will now be passed on to your great grandson, Gabriel as he is born in a few days.  "Aunt" Sue can smile from heaven knowing the faith she shared with me is being passed on now to two generations.  We love you and miss you Aunt Sue!

For those who missed knowing Sue, you missed a lot....  she  was a great

This January has been difficult.  As my own birthday on the 19th approached and thinking over my own life,  I felt a heavy heart until I began thinking over all the wonderful years we spent together at your home and at church and in front of the warm and inviting fireplace talking about God and Scriptures of God's Hope and Mercy and Grace.  He has not changed, His Truth is still the Truth.  His is still the Great and Powerful and Able God of the Universe.  None of those precious days together was wasted, not a minute was not known ahead of time by God.  In His Divine Mercy and Grace He will keep us all in His Loving Arms and our future is Good and Perfect although our hearts will ache.  Fight off thoughts that bring you down by calling out to our Heavenly Father to Jesus and ask for the Holy Spirit and angels to comfort us too.  But let us all turn our heavy hearts toward God and ask for His Grace to lift us up and give us His Joy even in our sorrows, and let us help someone else suffering with heart ache as we have felt it so deeply too.  His Plan for our lives is Good and Perfect.  NEVER GIVE UP.  I LOVE YOU SO MUCH and Miss you!

I can't believe its been three years now since you've left us. I think about you often.

Well, the email says your guest book will be closing soon.  I am truly sad to see it end.  I've read every entry and shed many tears, but it's helped me, and I'm sure others, process your passing.  I hope it's brought some peace to your parents to read how you touched so many people with your beautiful life and spirit.  Our 20 year Dallas Police Department anniversary is coming up and we will remember you and celebrate your life at the get together. Happy 20th anniversary, Sue!!! I miss you!!

I met Sue in the 4th grade at Dallas Christian Academy.  I lost touch with her after that year, but have thought about her ever since.  I was so sorry to read about her passing. She looks exactly the same.  When I knew her she had long brown hair.  She came to my house to spend the night one night, and my dad took us to play putt-putt at that place that used to be on Northwest Highway.  Sue was a good friend.  I'm sorry we weren't able to reconnect in later years.  It sounds like she was a blessing to all who knew her.  She was to me, even at that young age.

I just learned about the passing of Sue.  Dr. Smith and Patt you are very special people to me.    I am so sorry about the passing of your daughter.  I hope everything is OK with you two. God Bless!

I just found out today about Sue's passing and I am devastated to hear about her leaving this world! I was at Forestwood Antique Mall today and saw your booth and I went to the front to ask about Lee and Patt and all the family. When they told me about Sue I was so sad and devastated for you! I wish I had know sooner but I know you have all been grieving tremendously!  I am so sorry as are my husband Larry and Suzanne and LarryJr. I feel like I knew Sue well even though we had only met once many years ago. I knew her thru you talking about her all the years I came to Dr. Smith's office for my appointments and with Suzanne and LarryJr. I know how close your family has always been and I remember when Sue was born. I just learned of Sue's unfortunate passing. I met Sue back in 1982 through a mutual friend. Sue, Amy and I convoyed to Lubbock together in my first year at Texas Tech. Sue and I became fast friends and remained so for years. We had lost touch over the years but she was always in my heart; and will remain so forever. I lost touch with Sue several years ago, but we were good friends for many many years. I'm so very sad to hear of her passing, about which I am just now learning. She, Melissa McCoy Tanner, and I used to hang out together all the time. After I got married, she was a visitor to our house quite often. And always a welcome one. She was one of the brightest, funniest people I ever knew. Always a smile! She made people feel comfortable and happy, just being around her. I know you miss her terribly. So very sorry for your loss.

I've been thinking about you and Sue daily, especially the last couple of weeks in January.  I've been reflecting on all that you have meant to my life as I celebrated another birthday yesterday.  As sad as I still feel about such great loss of my best friend Sue and Roy too, I  I can't help but remember the message of “Never Give Up!”(at your house) and I know for certain that God is Faithful and True and that His Promises are Faithful and True and He wants you to rest mentally and physically and emotionally and spiritually in His Promises.  God Loves you and I think He is proud of all you have done for His Kingdom.  I am so grateful to Him for your love and spiritual investment in my life.   Sue positively influenced so many lives, especially mine and that is to your credit.  Roy also had a very positive influence on my life, I enjoyed him and his friendly and kind spirit.  May the Lord comfort you in the knowledge of His Promises and I also pray for you to have the “peace that passes all understanding” as the Wallises mentioned. I never knew Sue, but my father really enjoyed her company.  She would come by and visit with him from time to time, making sure things were going well and that he was safe.  Never having met her I was suspicious, wondering who this woman was and what were her intentions.  After some checking I came to learn that she was genuinely caring and kind and concerned for the well being of others, on and off the job.  I was glad that she had befriended my daddy.  I think her friendship lifted his spirits.  My father and I spoke of her just a few days before we heard the news of her death.  He had missed seeing her and hadn't heard from her in a while.  He was worried that something may have happened to her.  He was deeply saddened to hear of her death.  He always called her his "little police girl" and looked forward to her visits each week.  He loved the Pluots she would bring him to eat and the Dallas Police cap she left for him one day when he missed her visit.  I'm sorry I never got to know her.  Thank you, Sue for your kindness.  Rest in peace.

Sue, I had seen you around but didnt get to know you until we played in the police tennis league. Like everyone has said, once they met you it was like knowing you for years. I enjoyed our matches because we spent most of our time talking between points,games and sets. I look forward to the day when we can play and talk in heaven- game on my friend. Your pain must have been enormous...If we had only known. I've prayed for your eternal peace in the arms of the Lord. The only comfort for us is knowing you are now at peace for all of eternity.

Sue, you've always had that gift of making people feel warm, special, important, and loved!  From our academy days when you would keep running after you had finished just so you could join me at the back of the line and encourage me to keep going. To the many times over the past 16 years when we would run into each other every once in a while and always pick up talking where we left off. You always remembered the things I had shared with you during our previous meeting (sometimes a year prior) and made me feel like you really cared.   You are an inspiration.  You are my Hero.  To Sue's family - I am so very sorry for your loss.  You have to know what a special human being Sue is.  She touched countless lives and made them better.  Her smile and positive attitude were infectious.  There is no other like her.

I only had a chance to meet Sue once and that was the night of Linda Chambers and I 50th birthday party, July 24, 2010. She came out to celebrate with us. Her smile is still embedded in my mind. I remember when I walked out of the lady's locker room after getting dressed for the party, Sue walked up to me and introduced herself. I got so tickled, because even tho I'm not that tall, I had on these 3 1/2 inch heels and this little petite lady was looking up at me smiling, shaking my hand and asked if she could take a picture of me, before I got lost in the crowd mingling with our guests. Before I walked off, she ask, "where should I sit"?,  I was like, "girl, this table here is my family, sit there like you are a part of us", she was like "okay", each time I walked by the table where my family was sitting, Sue was sitting there laughing up a storm, no telling what my goofy family was saying., but I could tell, she was comfortable and was really enjoying herself. To Sue family, May the comfort of God help you during this difficult time. When we loose someone we love, it seems that time stands still. What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget.

I worked with Susan only a few times and took a few individuals to jail with her when my shift started.  I remember her positive attitude and the way she carried herself.  She made me want to be a better police officer, like her, by looking and acting professional and treating everybody with respect until they crossed the line.  I believe in Heaven and I feel God will use Susan's beautiful soul to keep doing good.

I first met Sue in the early 90s when she worked in Reports. It didn't take me long to recognize her many fine qualities - common sense, a sparkling sense of humor, and a high level of intelligence. She took those same traits with her into the field after she became an officer. I will miss her greatly. Ches

I'll never forget the laughter that we shared on the Norbuck courts.  We would give her a hard time when she would only play between 65 and 75 degrees....she would be a trooper though and be out there hitting the ball when it was in the upper 40's.  She will be missed by all and everytime I see a partly cloudy sky off to the west during a sunset and see the beautiful array of colors, I will think of Sue peaking through heaven's gate ajar.

What a loyal unique friend Sue was to me.  I loved her as a sister and my parents included her as family.  They will miss her, too.  I remember when I had my eye surgery in May and she helped my parents and me.  I woke up and heard them all laughing..here is Sue with her I-phone showing all her pictures and telling stories.  They were all laughing together.  Sue made you feel special and listened to you and cared deeply.
Sue you weren't from a mold, you were unique.  Small, but witty with that glimmer in your eye and a devilish smile.  Anyone that met Sue walked away as a friend.  She had a heart as "Big as Texas". I have so many wonderful memories as an officer on the street with her covering and helping my rookies, having many a laugh over lunches or dinners, at the farm, concerts, or walking Judy, Cole, and Freckles. Oh how many times we girls got together at Mattito's for Bob Armstong Dip and Margarita's with Showtime, Carrie, Melissa, and others.
So many wonderful memories I will cherish forever, that Sue crossed my life.  One day we will be together again, and you can guide me along the path.  May you find your dream log cabin in heaven, and be at peace.
