Sue Lee Robinson

Susie “Sue” Lee Chandler Robinson died Monday, August 8, 2016. Sue was born to the late Dortha Luton and W.E. “Red” Chandler April 26, 1939, in rural Durant, Oklahoma. She graduated as Salutatorian from Cobb High School in 1957.

Sue married Wayland Robinson June 4, 1956, in Durant, Oklahoma. Although the Chandler and Robinson families knew each other, it wasn’t until Wayland started watching Sue play basketball for her high school that they became soulmates. They moved to Duncanville, TX, in 1968 when Wayland started his career working for Dixico.

Sue was an amazing wife, mother and homemaker. She loved to bake and was often called upon to make special requests from friends and family. Although Sue loved being a homemaker, she and her sister Shirley purchased Village Charcoal Burger in Duncanville in 1973. They ran the highly successful burger place, along with their families for 13 years.

After the kids were grown, Sue and Wayland moved to Thorntree CC (DeSoto, TX) and lived on the golf course. It was here that Sue took up golf and became an avid player. Through their travels personally and with the Snack Food Association, she was able to golf her way from Pebble Beach to Sawgrass and all points in between. She was especially proud (and surprised) when she made a “Hole in One” during a business trip at Hilton Head (South Carolina) with three far more skilled golfers! Her favorite courses to play were in Palm Springs, Horseshoe Bay and Barton Creek.

Sue had a zest for life. Ask her what she loved the most, and she would quickly and proudly say her family and especially the grandkids. Because of her gifts of love, generosity, energy, and kindness, she had friends all over the country through business, golf and family.

She is survived by Wayland her husband of 60 years, her daughter Vickie Robinson, sons Bill Robinson and wife Lisa, Jeff Robinson and wife Paula. She is also survived by grandchildren Taylor Robinson, Jerimy Robinson and wife Leslie, Colby Robinson, Blake Robinson and Jerod Yates and wife Amy. Her great-grandchildren are Allie, Landon and Kate Yates and youngest Tegan Robinson. During the past two years, it was a special joy for Sue to be visited by this little red hair, blue eyed boy. She is also survived by her sisters, Pat Moore and Judy Barnes.

After a stroke in 2011, she spent four years at The Plaza at the Edgemere. She was cared for by many who became friends. She loved her weekly Bingo games. The family wants to thank the staff at The Plaza and especially her private caregivers Mamie Mango and Susannah Cooper for their care and love during this time. Sue was a woman of faith. During this time she attended church at the Edgemere.

A celebration of Sue’s life will be held Monday, August 15, 2016, at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home & Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at 1:00.
