Steven Glenn Bernstein

Steven was born in New York on March 9, 1949, to David and Virginia. In high school, Steven participated in the varsity swim team and worked as an ocean lifeguard. He was educated at George Washington University and graduated Phi Beta Kappa. He attended the University of Virginia Medical School and graduated with a Doctorate in Medicine. Steven performed an Internship, Residency, and Fellowship at the University of Southern California LA County Medical Center. He became Board Certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology and Gynecology Oncology.

Steven joined the academic faculty at UT Southwestern Medical School and, while he was there, published peer review articles and contributed to chapters in textbooks in the fields of OB/GYN and Gynecology Oncology.

Steven met and befriended Dr. Samuel Lifshitz. Together they collaborated and started Gynecologic Oncology Associates, a private practice at Presbyterian Dallas and practiced there until 2018.

In 2009, Steven was recruited by friend and neighbor, Ernest Dunn, who at that time was head of trauma surgery, to join the faculty at Methodist Dallas Medical Center. While there, Steven was Director of Gynecologic Oncology until Sept 2021. He contributed to the education and surgical training of hundreds of residents at Parkland, Presbyterian Dallas and Methodist Dallas Medical Center. That was rewarding and the highlight of his medical career.

Steven had many friends in the medical community, especially Dale Stoval.

Steven is survived by his wife, Lianne, her son, Mike (Karla) and her family, sister Ann (Saul) of Westlake, CA, and nephew Matthew (Aista) and Adam of CA. He is also survived by his childhood friend, Billy (Janice) Klein of FL and Mark (Linda) Siegel of Dallas.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff at Methodist Dallas Medical Center and Vitas Hospice Unit.

Graveside services to be held on April 13 at 1:00 pm. at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home. Donations may be made to Methodist Health System Foundation.
