Steve Herrera was born on Feb. 9, 1952 at Methodist Hospital here in Dallas, Texas to Alvino and Irene Herrera. Steve passed away Monday, April 1st, 2019. He is survived by his wife of 33 years Connie Enriquez Herrera, his siblings, Susie, Ray (Irma), Lawrence (Elaine) and Norma Herrera. He is blessed with numerous nephews and nieces from both side of the family and his little Yorkie "Izzy", his sister-in-laws, MaryAnn, Ana (Mama Mia) Julia Enriquez, and Pat Stephen, brothers-in-law, Manuel D. Ramirez (Marty), Rudy Guzman (Gail), Andrew Munoz (Dede), and Dave Stephen, and his goddaughters Raina Enriquez-Tamayo, and Sara Enriquez Sutton.
Steve attended Spence Elementary, Woodrow Wilson High School, and El Centro College. He started his broadcasting career at KERA Ch. 13 in 1972 as a cameraman, followed by many years at various radio and TV stations, KXTX TV 39, KDFW Channel 4, KSSA AM Spanish Radio, Home Sports Entertainment, among other occupations in sales from his own Herrera Advertising to car sales. At the age of 23 he had this idea of setting up a seasonal gift wrapping store at Town East Mall so he went to talk to the Mall and convinced them it would be successful, Los Regalos Gift Wrapping was a big hit at the mall to the point customers were banging on the door trying to get their gifts wrapped after closing on Christmas Eve. Along with Connie and other family members to help wrap it was quite a success. That next year Los Regalos opened a second shop at the Valley View Mall. Steve has always been positive and a "shoot for the moon and if you miss you'll land in the stars" kind of guy. He's been a great brother and a wonderful brother-in-law, uncle and friend and the absolute love of Connie's life.
Steve and Connie were next door neighbors since 1968 and started dating at the age of 20 and 22 until they married 13 years later in 1986. Both traveled from coast to coast (San Francisco to New York) and enjoyed many, vacations from Acapulco to Jamaica, St. Thomas and Cozumel. Their careers in broadcasting and the media allowed them to rub shoulders with many celebrities, enjoy outstanding media events which Steve loved to share with family and friends.
Throughout his life Steve has been someone who lived life to the fullest. Enjoying life, family and friends. Everyone that shared a moment, a Happy Hour or a phone call with him knew they were important.
Steve has spent his last 7 1/2 years as a District Manager for the BBB. He was a loyal employee and generous with his time and his lunches he took every day. He'd take an extra cookie, piece of cake or fruit so he could share. He was also know for cleaning the break room and buying breakfast tacos for his co-workers. They in return have been amazing. Several coming to visit, bringing food, calling and working hard to make sure Steve's needs were met as their friend and co-worker. To them we give the warmest of thanks and wish them many blessings.
While working downtown with the BBB he would see a lot of homeless people and he would take them clothes, food and give them a couple of dollars. He would give you the shirt off his back but don't try and take it, that was a no-no.
Steve was known for making several stops along the way before he got to his destination. Imagine taking a trip with him! After his passing we all knew he would be stopping along the stars, the moon and when he finally got to the Pearly Gates, he'd have to polish the gates and shine up the pearls. He was never to proud to serve and clean for whatever and whoever.
He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in June and had amazing Prayer Warriors with him til the end. He never complained and it was only the last couple of months that he slowed down. He kept saying, "I know I'm going to Heaven, who could be sad about that."
Steve had excellent care from his team of doctors and the nurses and nurse assistants at the Sammons Cancer Center and at T. Boone Pickens Cancer Hospital and to our nephew Mike Enriquez who he and Lisa came everyday and night to help care for Steve's personal needs. Loving thoughts to them all and to our wonderful Dr. Sharon Larkin. Also grateful to Dr. Georges Feghali, and Dr. Nina Feghali, and Dr. Mark Walberg.
May Steve's beautiful bright smile be smiling upon on our God and our Savior Jesus Christ whom he adored.
Steve, you loved and were well loved. You will be greatly missed.
May you Rest In Peace.
