He was born on January 14th, 1968 in Jangoan, Telangana to Mohan and Aruna Reddy Gunukula. Srinivas was raised in Hyderabad, India. He graduated from Siddhartha Medical College and pursued residency and cardiovascular fellowship in New York and Massachusetts, respectively. He married Sunita Gunukula on June 11th, 1993. The couple have two children, Shreya and Rahul Gunukula.
As an accomplished interventional cardiologist, he has dedicated his last twenty years to serving his patients and was a founding member of both Southwest Cardiac Associates and Baylor Heart Hospital. As Director of the Center for Advanced Cardiovascular Care at Baylor Heart Hospital and Director of Cardiovascular Services at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Lake Pointe he brought laurels to the institutions.. Always seen with a smile on his face, he loved to provide compassionate care for patients, perform procedures to music in the Cath lab, and serve as a mentor for many medical professionals.
Even when he was not treating his patients, Srinivas continued to support his community. He was President of Texas Indian Physicians Society (TIPS) and Indian Association of North Texas (IANT). During his presidency, he organized numerous events to share his Indian culture with the Dallas community and
raised funds to support healthcare initiatives in his home state of Telangana. In service of his home village Dhulmetta, Srinivas helped renovate a local government school and sponsored educational opportunities for many students both in the US and India. He also hosted medical camps, placed stents, and
brought other medical supplies to improve access to care for under-resourced patients in India. In recognition for his charitable efforts, he was awarded a physician of the year award by TIPS.
In his spare time, Srinivas could be found spending time with family and friends. He loved traveling, taking hot yoga classes with Shreya, eating sushi with Rahul, hiking, playing late-night rounds of poker, or enjoying a steaming pot of biryani. His family and friends will always remember him as a giver and a source of sage advice. He will be remembered as a pillar of his community; his guidance and acts of service forever live on in our memories.
He is survived by his wife, Sunita Gunukula; daughter, Shreya Gunukula; son, Rahul Gunukula; parents Mohan and Aruna Reddy Gunukula; and sisters Tirumala and Radha; and parents-in-law Narayan and Prameela Punreddy.
