Sherry Ann Mitchell was born on September 30, 1947 in Marshall, Texas (Harrison County) to the parentage of Theo and Murline (Brown) Mitchell. She was the oldest child of five children born to this union.
Sherry attended her early education in the Marshall Independent School District and graduated from H.B. Pemberton High School in Class of 1966. Later she studied and took additional courses at Eastfield Community College in Child Care Development.
Sherry confessed and accepted Christ at an early age at the Edwards Chapel Missionary Baptist Church of Marshall, Texas under the leadership of the late Rev. Nealy. Upon relocating to Dallas, Texas to live with her maternal grandmother, Mary Sue White, she united with the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Horton and later became a founding and charter member of the Concord Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. E.K. Bailey. Sherry played an intricate part in the development of the Concord’s Nursey Department and Early Childhood Division. She was instrumental and often preferred to work behind the scenes. She worked extremely close with the Director and her long -time friend, Nola Faye Wiley. Sherry also worked in other various ministries at Concord, singing in the Women’s Chorus, she was active in her growth group class and often volunteered for the Institute on Church Growth (ICG). Sherry was a faithful member until her health declined.
Sherry’s employment career was extensive. She worked for many years for Mostek Corporation and later worked as compliance tester for Teccor Electronics. Sherry always loved working with children, even helping to raise her own siblings; God afforded her the opportunity to work as the Assistant Director of the Bailey Cradle & Class Nursey until her retirement in 2003.
Sherry made her earthly transition on Monday March 9, 2020 at Methodist Medical Center of Dallas. Sherry was preceded in death by both of her parents, Theo and Murline Mitchell; her maternal grandparents, Willie Wilder and Mary Sue White; her sisters, Theartis Mitchell- Moody and Beverly Mitchell- Bivins and several other close relatives.
Sherry is survived by her son, Rev. Arthur L. Mitchell of Lancaster, Texas and daughter-in-law Erica; her 3 grandchildren Eric, Aaron and Jamia; her brothers, Rev. Willie Fred Mitchell (Cecila) of Friendswood, Texas and Donnie Ray Mitchell of Dallas, Texas; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends who will greatly miss her.
