Shahu Mahadev Pandit, 88, of Dallas, Texas, passed away, Friday, October 11, 2013. Shahu was born September 4, 1925 in Kolhapur, India. He was a member of Dallas First SDA Church from 1968 until his death. Shahu received his education at Lasalgoan Adventist School and Spicer Memorial College in Puna, India before moving to work at the Seventh Day Adventist Mission Hospital in Surat, Gujrat, India. He pursued and married Ruby Arthur, his sweetheart, while they both worked in Surat. They were blessed with 3 children over the years at Surat. He was much loved and respected by his patients, his peers and the community in Surat, and had the reputation of “wise counselor”. In 1968 he moved his family to Texas. He often commented that he wanted to provide a better life and better opportunities for them by bringing them to the United States.
He was a nurse at Parkland Hospital’s Renal Transplant Unit for many years and was reluctant to retire as he enjoyed his work, the patients and his co-workers. He worked in this unit until his retirement. Retirement brought many years of happiness. He was able to travel, fish, exercise, attend church functions and spend countless hours with his wife, children and grandchildren. His grandchildren were the light of his life.
Shahu is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Ruby and his beloved grandson Joshua. He is survived by his daughters Margaret & her husband Sharukh, Ruth & her husband Kumar and son David & his wife Vikki; five grandchildren, Rohini & husband Aaron, Cyrus & wife Donna, Tara, Mallory & husband Michael, and Shanaz; two great grandchildren Sesame Ruby and Lemon Ava.
Visitation is Sunday, 10/13/13 from 4-6pm at Grove Hill Funeral Home Chapel in Dallas, TX. Funeral service is Monday, 10/14/13 at 10:00 am at Grove Hill Funeral Home Chapel.
