Scott was born June 29, 1961 in Lincoln Nebraska where his Father was serving in the US Air Force. Scott is survived by his Father Major Arben R Ely, USAF RET, brother Mark L Ely of Florida, brother Russell T Ely of Nebraska, his beloved daughter Fiona Sabine Ely and Marge Royston, Fiona’s mother both of Kentucky, as well as many nieces and nephews. Scott was predeceased by his mother, Helen Ann Burton Ely.
Scott attended Seminole High School in Largo Florida. Upon graduation he attended the University of Florida. Later,he continued his education at Daytona Beach Community College in Florida and also at Shepherd University in West Virginia, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Art Studies. He was an accomplished and nationally published photographer, owning the business Fly-Foto. He photographed for numerous corporate clients and magazines such as Texas Monthly, Rolling Stone Washingtonian and Baltimore Magazine. He was also a photography studio manager for multiple locations such as Gregory Heisler Studio in New York, Pat Haverfield Studio in Dallas, and David Sharpe in Virginia. He shared his wealth of knowledge and love of the art, while teaching countless students at Texas A&M-Commerce, The Episcopal School of Dallas, Texas, and at Shepherd University in West Virginia.
Scott was a devoted Father, who treasured the years of love, fun and joy Fiona brought to his life.
Beyond his love for family and photography, while living in Maryland, Scott sought a degree in special education, while working as a paraprofessional educator with learning disabled children. This experience meant a great deal to him.
Scott loved smoking and grilling meat, he frequently shared with friends and neighbors, much to their delight. Many friends and family members, agreed he made the world’s finest beef jerky and pretty amazing coffee as well.
Scott enjoyed playing tennis, ping pong, deep sea fishing in the Gulf of Mexico, an appreciation for classic cars, civilian and military aircraft. Scott, was a strong man of conviction, a true friend to so many who crossed his path along his life journey and will be greatly missed by all.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on November 3rd, 2018 at 3:00.

Scott requested to be cremated and his ashes will be spread at sea, at a later date, by family, near where his mother’s ashes were spread at sea, many years ago.
Instead of sending flowers, we are encouraging loved ones to donate to Scott’s most recent favorite organization, the SPCA.
