Sarah received her education through the Morehouse Parish school system, where she was a star basketball player.
Sarah accepted Christ at an early age in Oak Ridge, Louisiana. After moving to Dallas, she became a member of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship and was an active member of the Silver Stars. Sarah worked for Baylor University Medical Center for over thirty years, retiring as a Unit Secretary.
On Wednesday, March 15, 2023, Sarah Marie Fortenberry entered into her enteral home of Glory. She was welcomed by her parents; two brothers, Curtis McWoodson and Sammy McWoodson; one sister, Theodora Rolland; two sons, Rickey E. Brown and Gregory Charles Brown and one grandson, Denoris B. Harris II.
Sarah leaves to cherish her memories three sons, Michael Brown (Paquita) of North Ridgeville, OH, Vernell Brown (Jennifer) of McKinney, TX and Maurice Fortenberry, Dallas, TX; six daughters, Debra Fortenberry-Wiley of Lancaster, TX, Marilyn Harris (Denoris) of Dallas, TX, Sandra Nelson (Michael) of Dallas, TX, Hattie Miller (Phillip) of Lancaster, TX, Carla Gates (Eugene) of Lancaster, TX and Nena Fortenberry of Dallas, TX; two brothers, John Fortenberry of Cedar Hill, TX and Donald Fortenberry of Dallas, TX; two sisters, Dorothy Haynes of Cedar Hill, TX and Mary Alice Seay (Joe) of Bastrop, LA; twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren; one very special niece “her twelfth child,” Quinette Hatcher; a beloved daughter-in-law, Benilda Brown and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbors and friends.
