Salvadore T. Lucido (Sal or Sam) faded away on April 16, 2013, surrounded by his family, at the age of almost 91 after an extended battle with old age. He had lived an exceptional life, never forgetting his humble beginnings on a farm in Independence, LA. With only a 6th grade education he built a successful auto body repair business, with his wife Dorothy, over the course of 33 years, from which he did not retire until he was 74. He loved to solve people’s problems.
Salvadore served in the navy in VP74 for 3 years during WW II and talked about it for 68 years. He had a great experience and loved to keep up with his squadron whose motto was “The older we get the better we were”. His other hobbies, that he enjoyed until he was 91, included working outside, watching things grow, making things, fixing things, and giving advice to his children. He was fiercely independent and his incredible will to live and resistance to slowing down outwitted our pessimism at all but the last turn.
Salvadore is preceded in death by 5 sisters, 8 brothers, and his daughter, Theresa Lucido. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Dorothy; son Gary Lucido and wife Carol; daughter Debbie Case and husband Bill; son Mark Lucido and wife Paula; brother Lawrence Lucido and wife Mary; brother Vito Lucido and wife Betty; and scores of nieces and nephews. Salvadore is also survived by his 5 grandchildren Aimee, Lindsay, and Chase Lucido and Andrea and Michael Case.
