June 4, 1959 – September 24, 2021
Carrolton, Texas
Following a decades long battle with cancer, Sally passed away peacefully on September 24, 2021, her loving husband of 37 years, Carl Zuponcic, and her family and friends by her bedside. Sally was a beautiful, accomplished, generous, kind and utterly optimistic woman who fought like a hero each and every day with courage and dignity. Born to the late William Franklin Jones and Sonia Angstadt Jones in Rochester, New York, Sally was a graduate of Alfred State College. She began a career in the IT industry that spanned 35 years, working in software engineering and software development management, including 15 years at PepsiCo. She received two software patents while employed at IBM, and later, her entrepreneurial spirit led her to co-found a software development and consulting business.
Sally’s generosity, energy, and community involvement included leadership positions and support for both Habitat for Humanity Women’s Build, the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure as well as many other charities. She harnessed her optimistic spirit and legendary kindness into service as a mentor to those who were also walking the difficult path of cancer treatment.
Her life with Carl was filled with love, adventure and world travel, and time with close friends and family. She was an avid cook, hostess and gardener, and creating a home for Carl and her stepson Noah Thomson was the greatest joy of her life. Finally, no matter the city and no matter the country, Sally was always in a relentless quest for the perfect grilled cheese sandwich.
Sally is survived by her loving husband, Carl John Zuponcic and her step-son Noah Martin Thomson.
Additionally, she is survived by:

Finally, the family would like to thank friends Jon and Beth Baird, and Kevin and Coly Gutekunst. Their decades long friendship, support, and generosity were unwavering in good times and in bad. We will forever be grateful for their kindness.
The family would also like to say thank you to special friends Sandra Segura and Jim Fleming. They were there for Sally month after month, and year after year.
The family would also like to thank the many healthcare professionals that provided support and care for Sally over the past 15 years. Special thanks to Dr. Christopher Stokoe, Cindi Bedell NP and Zaineb Shams FNP and all the staff at Texas Oncology. Their compassion and professionalism was unfaltering. Additionally, special thanks to Dr. Jeffrey Cattorini and his neurosurgery team.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Sally’s name to the American Cancer Society, Habitat for Humanity, or to CaringBridge, a personal health communication website.
A celebration of Sally’s life is being planned for November 6th, at Canyon Creek country club. The address is 625 West Lookout Dr., Richardson, TX. The time will be from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Everyone has a concern about Covid regarding social gatherings, and Sally was no exception. She was a fierce proponent of mandatory vaccinations. Because of this, the family requests that all unvaccinated friends not attend this celebration. All vaccinated guests may or may not use masks at their own discretion.
Finally, the following is taken word for word from Sally’s last wishes document:
* If there is a memorial service, I prefer it to be a celebration of my life.
* Choose music that I love.
* Pictures of my life can be used.
* Tell all my lady friends to dress in the colors of spring flowers and to wear their favorite pashminas.
* Friends or family who wish to share a story that will make people smile may do so.
Please join friends and family for the celebration of the life of a very extraordinary and courageous lady. Bring your best story and your best smile.
