Her family settled in Ohio and Sally was the graduating class valedictorian at Firestone High School in Akron, Ohio. She then went to Carnegie Mellon University where she majored in Chemical Engineering. Sally had a successful career with Goodyear where she met Art Magee.
The two married on August 31, 1990, and upon retiring they settled in Dallas, Texas to be near family. Each year, Sally and Art enjoyed trips to Hawaii, New Orleans, and to see family members throughout the country in addition to many travels to Europe, Africa, and South America.
Sally was exceptionally creative, and her generosity had few limits. She and Art created a beautiful home and frequently hosted meals with family and friends. Sally was a wonderful cook, an excellent knitter and an award-winning quilter. Her awards included first place at the Plano Quilt Show three times, the Dallas Quilt Show, and the Founder’s Day award at the Houston International Quilt Show, to name a few.
Sally would frequently celebrate a new marriage or the birth of a baby by making a special quilt for the couple or child. Sally also donated quilts to benefit local charitable organizations, most notably the In Sync Exotic Wildlife Rescue, Yantis Volunteer Fire Department, and St. Catherine Catholic Grade School in Sebring, Florida.
Sally leaves behind her husband of 33 years, Art Magee, many beloved family and friends including her brother and sister-in-law Craig and Linda Sherman, their daughter Jaclyn Stevens and her family, and their son Captain Brook Sherman and his family. She will be greatly missed by Art’s daughter Angela and Angela’s three children Austin, Hannah, and Amanda as well as many cousins, including Rick Sherman, Cindy and Thai Hoang, and Mary Anne and Tim Gallagher. Also, Sally’s quilting group was one of her greatest joys and she will be missed by her close friends, Pam Sanders, Debbie Price, Janie Douglas, Mardy Cronister, Jennifer Carter, JoEllen Brill, and Wendy Moring.
A celebration of Sally’s life will be held at Sparkman Hillcrest funeral home on November 14, 2023, at 10:00 am. A reception will follow the service.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.Sparkman-Hillcrest.com for the Magee family.
