She was born July 4, 1929, in Chicago, IL to Charles and Josephine Maenza. Her father worked for International Harvester. Her mother was a tailor for Saks. They moved to Chicago from Italy in the 1920s.
Sally grew up in on the south side of Chicago. After high school she worked as an administrative assistant at Turtle Wax, where she met J. Kenneth Baird. They married in the mid 1950s and lived in Evanston and then Zion and Milwaukee. Mrs. Baird was a homemaker while her husband was a lawyer. She raised 5 children in addition to earning a certificate as a court reporter. After Ken’s retirement, they moved to Longboat Key, Florida where they enjoyed various activities.
She was active in the gardening club and Longboat Key Turtle Watch.
Her interests included family, gardening, sewing, crafts and reading. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members, including her mother & husband until they passed.
Mrs. Baird is survived by her brothers, Joe & Connie Maenza; her five children Stacey, Bruce, D’Arcy, Joan & Robert and 11 grandchildren; and 8
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Kenneth Baird.
