She is survived by her daughters Pamela Reynolds of Dallas, Judi Gill and husband Russell D. Gill of Clyde, TX, grandsons Brandon Gene Gill and his wife Danielle of New York City, NY, and Taylor Clandon Gill of Cambridge, MA. She is also survived by her sister Betty Jacobs of Dallas, brother Ray Stanphill of Irving, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ruth Stanphill Reynolds was born in Atoka, OK. She was the second of six children born to Buddy and Iva Stanphill. When her father died at the age of 12, she helped her mother raise her siblings during the depression years, even sending money back to them once she was an adult. When her mother developed health issues, she moved her into her home and cared for her for ten years.
She was married to R. Gene Reynolds of Dallas TX for 32 years. Dr. Reynolds was an author and longtime southern Baptist minister. Ruth was the ideal pastor’s wife. She taught Sunday school and worked in a supportive role to pastor wives in the Dallas area for over 30 years. She served alongside her husband until she was widowed in her fifties.
Ruth loved working in downtown Dallas. She worked for Standard Oil, ARCO Oil, and Hunt Oil Company, from where she retired. She enjoyed traveling and was fortunate to travel internationally to numerous countries. She enjoyed painting, decorating and reading. Ruth loved and was very proud of her family, but was particularly proud of her two grandsons, Brandon and Taylor Gill. With a quiet, strong personality, she had grit and perseverance. She was faithful to her family and to her Lord.
“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.” Proverbs 31: 25-30
Ruth Stanphill Reynolds was the Proverbs 31 woman.
