Born in MO, his family later moved to Vega, TX by way of horse and wagon where he worked hard in the fields starting at age 9 and learned how to fix anything mechanical.
At 19, he joined the Navy and was sent to Hawaii as a third class motor machinist in charge of rebuilding engines and maintaining boats. While on leave, he met vivacious Tena Shelton and they married in 1945 after the war ended. They moved to Dallas, Texas and he worked as a diesel mechanic for Greyhound and later retired from Roadway. He and Tena spent their retirement years roaming the country in their RV and making friends until the early 2000s. With his mechanic skills and willingness to help others, he was known as THE fix-it man.
There was not a sweeter, kinder, or funnier man. He dearly loved everyone he knew and would light up a room. His granddaughter Lana shared their relationship on social media and touched hundreds of people who read about him.
His legacy of love will be carried on by his kids Trisha and Ricky and granddaughters Lana and Erin and remaining family. Graveside service will be family only Wednesday, July 15 at Laurel Land.
