Rev. Ron Boswell of Fort Worth, Texas, Minister of the Gospel, beloved Husband, Father, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, pastor, youth pastor, Southern Baptist missionary to Brasil, Interim Pastor of various SBC and SBTC churches passed away Saturday, February 11, 2023.
Ron was a Houston native, graduated from Stephen F. Austin in Houston. He was Licensed for the Gospel Ministry by Lawndale Avenue Baptist Church, Houston, Texas and Ordained by Clarendon Avenue Baptist Church, Dallas, now Red Oak Baptist Church, Red Oak, Texas and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Wayland Baptist University, Plainview, Texas. He met and married the love of his life, Marlene Drumgold while at Wayland and also earned his Master of Divinity degree with Languages with a major in New Testament and Preaching at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
During seminary Ron became youth pastor of Clarendon Drive Baptist Church, for three years, and after graduating pastored Cedar Temple Baptist Church, in Oak Cliff for five years. He and Marlene were appointed as Southern Baptist Missionaries to South Brasil in 1964-1965. He went to School of Portuguese Language, Campinas, Brasil, 1964-1965. They were called to Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerias for twelve years where Ron was Director of the Evangelism Department for the State (about the size of Texas), located in the south central mountain region. Traveling extensively over the state to our churches, preaching revivals, teaching the pastors how to study the scriptures, baptizing, administering the Lord's Supper and giving Pastors and members encouragement. The Boswell’s raised two sons and a daughter in Brasil. One son, Charles, is a pastor (working with the Southern Baptist Texas Convention, the other son, Rick, was Interim pastor/Contractor and daughter Cheryl is a Special Education teacher in Hendersonville, Tenn.
Upon returning to the United States in 1978, for furlough Ron became Director, Texas/Brasil Partnership Mission Project, International Mission Board and The Baptist General Convention of Texas, a two year extended furlough. In 1980 the International Mission Board in Richmond, Virginia invited Ron to become Director, Volunteers in Missions Department, International Mission Board, SBC, as a new department. The department was composed of the director, four area managers and five support personnel. The IMB invested more than a million dollars a year in the volunteer ministries. While in Richmond Ron was Interim Pastor of 13 Baptist churches.
Ron retired after 29 years with the IMB to accept the senior pastor position at Grove Avenue Baptist Church in Richmond, VA. It was one of the largest churches in Richmond, and was on NBC Live TV every Sunday morning. Ron stayed at Grove for seven years. In 2000 Ron retired from Grove, and we moved to the Fort Worth area and Ron became a Certified Transitional Pastor, LifeWay Christian Resources of the SBC, Nashville, Tenn. Since that time, he has served thirteen churches in the Texas area. To God Be the Glory!

Ron is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marlene Drumgold Boswell; his sister Judy Boswell Henderson and brother-in-law, Mike; niece, Lisa Lee Henderson Gielow and her husband, John; great nephew, Dillion and Hudson; Dr. Mark Henderson and his wife, LaSandra; Great nieces and nephews, Collin, Taylor, Lindsey, and Landor; Sons, Charles Boswell and his wife, Patti; grandchildren, Matthew Boswell and wife, Jamie; great grandchildren, Caden, Addison, Avery, and Cannon Knox; Aaron Boswell and his wife, Samantha; great grandchildren, Owen, Theo and Summer; Amy Boswell McFalls and her husband, Adam; great grandchildren, Meredith Claire, Grayson, and Caroline; Richard Boswell; grandchildren, Jenny Boswell Dunn and her husband Charles; great-grandchildren, Kensley Grace, Grayson, Harper, and Graham; Chris Boswell and his fiancee, Havana, and son, Channing; Stephen Boswell; Cheryl Ann Boswell Young and husband Mike [with Jesus and Grandpa Boswell in heaven]; grandchildren, Bryan and his wife Caitlyn; great-grandchildren, MacEachen, Miles, and Bradley; Diana Young Spohn and husband, D.J.; and great-grandchildren, Dexter and Mirabelle.
