I am sorry Cynthia and I could not attend Robert's services. We had a family emergency. We will always miss Robert's smile and his laugh. He always Had a strong connection to Peggye and the prank they pulled on me. I will always cherish my memories of him. He will be missed by a lot of people. Sympathy and prayers go out to the family.

Sooooooooooooooo sorry 'bout Robert-Ed!

My gawd, you sho got a Chevy truck load of grandkids. 

Anyway, thangs I remember 'bout Robert-Ed: that smile and dark hair just beginning to gray at the sides of his head, using the bathroom in the West Furniture store over in Honey Grove (Mom & Dad did not have that amenity in their shop next door), Robert Ed West, SR with that huge cigar, pulled-down brown hat, and his huge black auto, you & Robert Ed exchanging glances of love and laughing, his army issued Colt 45 Auto (he gave me one bullet which I still have somewhere, plus a small cannon round which I have in my office here in Sherman on a window shelf), his warm and "strong" handshake, the way he lifted his dark eyebrows only to allow them to settle back down, and all the good thangs my folks used to say 'bout you both !!!!!!

Libbie, do "hold your water" and stay strong for all remaining, including of course - me!

I worked with Robert when he and I (secretary) worked for Trent Root, TXU Exec. (Government Relations, in 1979)   Robert was a good, funny man, and I enjoyed knowing  and working with him.   Sympathy and condolences to all the family.

Libby, Robert was a trusted mentor to me for all my 40 years and I respected him with my whole heart. Listening was his greatest gift and he was the best I ever met.

To the family,

I first met Robert in 1962 when the Company sent me to Mesquite to learn about district operations.  Robert was the assistant manager.  He took me aside and advised me to 'work' while I was there, especially on the line crews. "Don't stand around with a clipboard and take notes as some others have done".  I took that advice to heart, and as a result made some lasting friendships that I enjoyed for the next 30 years.  I always looked forward to seeing him at the many Company functions over the years.  He was a really, really good man.  His memory will be with all of us for a very long time.

I will miss Robert.  He was a loyal and dedicated employee.  When I transferred to Central Division in 1970 and he was manager in Garland, I became his technical assistant on many projects after that.  Rest in peace Roberi

Robert was a uniquely fine man. He was the "shadow" general manager of TP&L and never sought recognition .

Libby and Family;
I met Robert in the 1970's when I was a young man at TP&L.  I worked closely with him for over 20 years.  Many of those years he was just down the hall.  I grew up in Paris Texas, and the Honey Grove man was a winner in many many ways.  You can define a hero in many ways, but Robert was one.  During my years with Robert, I considered him a great man  he spent most of his time thinking about how others  how could those individuals be successful and how to make our great Company successful.  Co-workers can listen and learn the true picture of a man, sometimes even more than the family; and I assure you he was a great man and a great family man.  Robert, thanks for your friendship.

TP&L had many great dedicated and exceptional people truly a "family" environment.

Among those at the top of my list would be Robert West, an exceptional man, friend and person who dealt with adversity with grace and poise.

Robert West hired me into the TPL family in the late 70's. Robert was a guiding hand for a company facing much turmoil but he always seemed to have an answer to our problems. Robert made me proud to be a member of the family and always had time to share a moment. I will always remember him. God bless.

Robert was an unusual person. He had a way of getting things done before you realized they needed to be done. He was a friend to all who knew him.

   I remember Robert Ed coming to West Texas and spending time with all of us West Texans and I thought I was just as big as he was even though I was probably eight years younger. He was a great older cousin and I remember the time he spent visiting us as something special.

Libby, I'm so sorry for your loss.  Robert Ed was so highly respected and loved by all who knew him.  I will remember you and your family in my prayers.

I interviewed  on campus of Texas Tech in 1970 because of Mr. West who was the District Manager in Sulphur Springs at that time. Growing up in SS the umpire of the Little League baseball was J R Campbell and one of my coaches was Billy Thompson all T P & L employees and all  great men. Thanks Mr. West for your leadership and mentoring so many of us for so many years. Our prayers are with all your family and may you RIP.

Robert West was one of the best managers who ever worked for TP&L.He was a loyal friend and mentor to me for the 22 years we worked together.

Mr. West was my first boss following graduation from East Texas State University in 1966. At the time he was Texas Power & Light Company District  Manager in Hopkins County. Under his leadership, there could not have been a more perfect professional environment in which to launch a career!  District employees, the community, the county, the State of Texas and utility representatives in Washington respected Mr. West for his professional character, integrity, intelligence and commitment. Regardless of name or title, everyone was treated with the same respect and dignity!

Personally, he was revered for his trust, dependability, honesty and consistency. Although excellence was the expectation, his leadership style was encouraging!

Mr.West credited Libby with his professional success and personal attributes. Throughout his career, she supported and was involved in all of his endeavors.  Their marriage of almost 60 years is a rarity, a treasure, and a legacy, especially for Janet, Susan, Robert, grandchildren, great-grandchild and other family members. Mr. West and Libby evidenced a pure, genuine, loving and lasting relationship which is a model for all!

How blessed are we all that Mr. West was a part of our lives! The world is better because of him! 

"Live so that when you are gone it will have mattered."  Mr. West did and it does!
