I am going to miss Robert Toney, he once told me I was the only person who for years has called him by his first and last name whenever we saw each other. We laughed about that, and I continued to refer to him that way. He was very inspiring, trustworthy, and the most God fearing man I've ever known. When he showed you who he was, you could believe him. His love for his family, teens, and Young Life was never ending. If I didn't see him every day it was every other day or so.  He would usually pull into our driveway in the Young Life van with a smile on his face with news about the teens at Carter High. Before he left, he would sneak some Bit-O-Honey candies from our candy dish. That was our favorite and we were suppose to limit it's consumption.  We all have  so many stories and good deeds to share about Robert Toney that when we think about him we'll smile and say "Thank you Jesus for allowing him to have been a part of our lives."

Robert Toney, Sr.  Planted many good seeds into young men & women lives through Young Life that have grown into leaders in their families,  jobs, and community. To God Be The Glory for Robert T. Toney's life and Godly Influence .May it comfort your hearts to know his work with youth is Not In Vain .

Mr T ,Robert Toney,a brother I will never forget, I won't forget his love for helping , ministering and praying for people ,you talk about a brother who will walk with you in your time of hardships,Mr T was a real friend and brother , his faith and his pease was addictive and the way he lead his family, he helped me in my times of trials and self doubt,I need a couple of years to talk about MrT.  I won't forget that high arching 3 point shooting on the basketball court and the crispy cream donuts he got me addicted to Mr T you will be missed, thank you Lord for sending Mr Toney my condolences to the Toney family. BIG TIME yes that name was fitting for you. Because everyone you came into contact with you made a BIG IMPACT IN THEIR LIFE.  Robert you took me under your wing from that point on you made sure I was going in right direction. I haven't accepted that i we won't be spending time together when you come to Huntsville. I can imagine you and Larry Jones cutting up .

I just want to say I thank god for putting you in my life you was a huge impact on me.Everytime we hang out it was always a good time we talked about anything that was on our minds.I really appreciate you showing me what a god fearing man looks like and for teaching and mentoring me to be the best person/leader I can be.when we was together you would always speak highly of your family by telling me what is god doing in there lives.thank you for the unforgettable memories we have together I will always cherish them.I love you and I miss you Mr.Toney

I was really sad when I heard of Roberts passing.  I had became really close to he and Melissa by working at AT&T stadium.  He was a fine man and I loved the short time I was blessed to know him, we shared stories about our dogs, he loved Major.  His stories were great ones.  Will miss you very much Robert.  God speed.  

Robert was a great football player and even a better man.  He always had a great smile and was always there if you needed to talk to someone. He will be missed by many. 

My deepest condolences to the entire Toney family during this time. Rob was a great part of my life in my mid and late 20’s. We worked together at church doing security. Outside of that, Rob loved some Basketball and we could always find him on the court, shooting the ball like he was in the NBA. I can still hear his voice still to this day saying, “C! Pass me that ball! Lol..” 

Rob will truly be missed. I am grateful and blessed to have known him. Rest In Power Rob!

Robert Toney was one of the first friends that I met when I went to Jacksonville State. Robert was a true friend who was always there when you needed him. He was a friend for life. We will miss you big time.

You were always there ! No matter what you never gave up on me or anyone else. I’m lucky that you were a part of my life, you always knew how to put a smile on my face. Thank you so much Mr.T Aka my favorite, there is never going to be anyone like you, you’re truly one of a kind . You truly brought light into my life , every chance I had to see you I took it and I regret every chance I didn’t take , I will forever miss you and you will never be forgotten . I love you Mr.T ❤️

The Owens Family is so sorry to hear of  the loss of  Robert. He was a fine man and forever friend of our family. Dad went just ahead of Robert maybe to be waiting for him with big hug. All our love, The Owens

To Robert’s family and friends,

I met Robert in 1979 through Young Life, in Huntsville, Alabama. I was a senior at Grissom High School. I went on Western Tour in the summer of 1974. Big Time was on that trip. He was so fun and a great spiritual friend and leader. I attended Jax State University that fall and Robert was a standout on the football team. He was involved in ministries on campus. I attended Student Challenge there. Big Time was a leader. He and I interacted a lot! He was so kind and had the respect of everyone that knew him! Praying for the entire family in this great loss! I am so thankful for his testimony!

I don’t know where to start…it was my sophomore year of High School at Carter High when I first met Mr.Tony I remember having my dance bag and walking in the hall when he stopped me he had told me that he seen me around the school before in my ROTC uniform and asked me what I liked better dance or ROTC. I remember telling him why did I have to pick one from the other why can’t I just like both lol he looked at me and laughed told me he liked the way I think told me that if I had time in my busy schedule that I should come to YL after school.

I remember telling him maybe one day I will and that one day came when I had a really bad day I didn’t wanna be in dance or in ROTC and I sure didn’t wanna be home so I went to YL. From there on out I was so involved as much as I could be even when I moved away YL became a home away from home and Mr.Tony became a father figure that I never truly had…you will forever be missed. 

Within a week's time I lost my high school football coach and the best teammate anyone who played football at any level could have.   Both Coach Owen and Robert Toney were men of integrity.  I am proud to have called one Coach and the other my teammate and friend.  
My best words are not sufficient to express the grief I felt on hearing of Robert's passing.  Robert was a warrior on the football field, but more importantly, Robert was a man of great faith.  I have no doubt  Robert is at rest in the arms of our loving God.  May Robert's faith and the knowledge that God keeps his promises, give you peace during the Christmas season and always.

I only new Robert for a short time, but he made a big impact on my life. He was always so nice and a pleasure to speak with. May God bless his family!

I don’t know where to start.  I always cherished our friendship since YL days.  Robert was a true friend & leader.  Loved his stories about family & his YL kids & annual YL camp. Was so excited to see him and eat lunch at “Waltons” when he came to Hville.  Cherished the time after lunch I took him to visit Coach and Mary Owen.  Was just texting him about Coach Owens passing when Robert was in the hospital.  
Just know that he loved you all dearly and EVERYONE  loved him dearly❤️ I will miss him so. Keeping ya’ll in my thoughts and prayers.  Hugs to all.

I didn’t have the privilege to know Mr. Toney long but the time I spent with him impacted my life greatly. He did some business with me and I had the opportunity to give back a little to Young Life. Mr. Toney empowered me in in a way no one else has. The way he loved me when I didn’t t even like myself was life changing. I’m so grateful God introduced us.

You are closer than a brother,

In 2014, I was a sophomore at David W. Carter High School in Dallas, TX. I had just moved to the state and was now 1,700+ miles from my home city Detroit. Robert Toney Sr., introduced his self to me during my lunch period and from that moment, a relationship full of life and adventure was created. Since then, Mr. Toney and I have spoken over a million words, driven over 18,000 miles, ate hundreds of meals, and shared many hugs.

Mr. Toney shared the love of Jesus Christ with me without using words. The love he showed, encouraged me to live a life doing the same for highschool students in Austin, TX. Thousands of high school students have been impacted by the ripple effect Mr. Toney left in my life.

This is the hardest thing I have ever gone through. I know it’s going to take a lot of time. Please pray for his family and friends.
