Robert Lonnie Smith, age 73, of Dallas, Texas passed away on Tuesday January 30, 2018 at Baylor Hospital. He was born January 10, 1945 in Dallas, Texas to William and Mondine Smith. Robert was the only child born to his parents. He was given the name of "BOBBY" by his family at an early age and later friends started just calling him "BOB". He attended Urban Park Elementary School and was a graduate from Samuell High School with the class of 1963. He continued his studies at the University of Texas at Arlington where he received his education in accounting and graduated in 1974. He is a Life Member of Delta Sigma Pi. Bobby enjoyed being a part of the Boy Scouts of America where he achieved many accomplishments and built his confidence in his ability to be able to offer first aid when needed and would always make sure there was a band-aid handy. He was also known for giving the "traffic report" to family if they were traveling during the holidays. Bobby gave his life to Christ at an early age. He loved reading his Bible and tried to collect every version he could find. Bob was a proud member of First Baptist Church of Dallas, where he served as Secretary of his class. He enjoyed many hobbies. He enjoyed spending time with is archery club practicing the art of archery. He liked to go fishing and always talked about riding his bike! He was interested in cameras and taking pictures of animals and the outdoors. Bob loved taking spontaneous road trips and would just pack up his car and hit the road. He moved to many places, but it was always short term, California, Washington and Pennsylvania being just a few, but he always came back home to the house he grew up in, on Howard Ave. in Dallas, Texas. Robert (Bobby) was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mondine Smith. He is survived by a host of loving extended family members.
A visitation for Robert will be held Monday, February 5, 2018 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Grove Hill Funeral Home, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, Texas 75228. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM at GrovHill Funeral Home with Interment to follow at Grove Hill Memorial Park.
